A Challenge and a Trophy 9/1/2458

General Summary

Alas for Poor Brevir

  • Farren, Krumbleton, Alton, and Rust were granted a private audience with Dimir, storm giant paramount.
  • Dimir was eager to learn what they had heard of his ancestor, Brevir. Farren claimed that they had checked the archives and found that Brevir had been betrayed/tricked. There was no sign of the cloud giants above.
  • Dimir believed that Qivrin Kels, who he said had been man, claimed to be the reincarnation of some slighted elven noble, had once controlled Myth Elin, and had eventually destroyed it, had been the one to betray Brevir. Apparently, Brevir had gone to Kels for aid before going to search for the cloud giants.
  • Apparently, Brevir's disappearance had left the storm giants without leadership for a time when they were threatened by their enemies.
  • Dimir seemed disappointed that there was no further information on Brevir's fate.

Dimir's Art

  • The party offered their services (transport and smiting) for an unspecified fee but Farren gestured to Krumbleton who had a particular request for Dimir.
  • Krumbleton asked if Dimir had the artefacts of Thor. Dimir shared the tale of how Thor had come to meet his ancestor Milor, and gifted him with his gauntlets (and belt) before Milor ascended to dine with Thor himself.
  • Krumbleton asked what claim Dimir had, and whether the line was direct.
  • There were a number of paintings of powerful storm giants in the room, most Dimir's ancestors from Milor.
  • There was also, on the other wall, a painting of a tall, red haired, bearded Thor, wearing belt, gauntlets, and wielding his hammer. Additionally, there was a painting of a masked giant, although not a storm giant, labelled Vlurym. Krumbleton vaguely recognized the later from depictions of the birth of the sun.

Krumbleton Issues a Challenge

    "I ... I am special you see
    I am a convergence.
    My dreams tell me this.
The word of Thor tells me this...
    My father's father's father...
10-20 fathers before him, that line is direct to Milor
    and my mother...
my mother's mother's mother and 20 mothers before that was
Yorin, daughter of Magne, who was the son of Thor himself.
    ...
Milor who protects the vineyard that Thor did not destroy...
Thor who casts the bolt that lights the fire that cooks the beasts
That will be our challenge, food and wine!"
— Krumbleton

Harold's Hunt

  • In the forest, Harold and Goltag fought a dinosaur.
  • It proved somewhat larger, and more powerful than Goltag had thought and both he and Harold were terrified for most of the fight. (Harold was frightened the entire time).
  • Despite this, Harold used the colossal trees and their fruits, Goltag's axe, and his own lightning to bring down the beast.
  • Goltag lifted the body once but it was too big and heavy for him to carry back to the gate.
  • Harold again tried to have Goltag make him big, but Goltag merely said that Harold was big inside.
  • Rayne wandered in, and seemed disappointed that the dinosaur was dead. He mentioned something about another one escaping, and that the circus would be great.
  • Harold asked Rayne to make him big. Rayne told Harold he was a shapeshifter and to do it himself.
  • To his surprise, Harold managed to shift into a storm giant to help a surprised Goltag bring the body back to the gate.
  • He called the party to meet him.
"Rayne can you make me big!"
"You're a shapeshifter Harold; do it yourself."
    "I can't."
"That's rubbish. Why not? Do it anyways!"

Loot

  • The party left Dimir to plan what they could plan.
  • Rust, Farren, and Krumbleton went to the west gate to meet a momentarily gargantuan storm giant Harold and then an exhausted Harold.
  • Goltag returned to his guard duty. He told Harold to meet him later, to eat the dino.
  • Harold took a nap on the carcass.
  • Harold took the head. The party brought the rest to the chefs at the Halls of Thor and Milor. The chefs and Krumbleton prepared the dinosaur. The bones, scales, etc. of the dinosaur were stored for the party. (Farren has a ticket to pick them up later).

Alton's Investigation

  • Alton observed the mural in the garden outside the Little Palace, noting the statue, harp, and scale on top of the wall.
  • On one side of the wall was a depiction of various giants and Thor.
  • On the other side there was a depiction of a battle ready Rayne, facing out into the darkness, his back to a group of elves standing in a circle. On top was a cloaked figure walking by. There were also two dark elves running away with an infant, with a look of "ok... now what do we do" panic. Finally there was an armed and armoured group under a crescent moon.
  • Alton showed this to Farren, and then decided to stay behind and investigate.
  • Alton climbed up to the top of the weird ruined tower with the tree growing through it.
  • The building seemed more ancient than anything he had seen in Vyaelian. It may have been intricately designed once, but most details were long worn away by time. There were some human sized, vaguely human sized statues. Thee design did not seem to be elvish.
  • There was evidence that someone had been in the tower in the past few months (discarded bottles, food containers etc.)
  • There was a crumbling tiled floor in a pitch black room.
  • The roots at the bottom of the tower were glowing brightly.
  • The tower was filled with ghosts. Some were praying in a circle, others just sitting.
  • Some kind of magic hurt ethereal Alton when he forced his way outside.
  • The shadow (later identified as a guardian, a shadow of Luin) was still sitting on the arch. It did not speak but attempted to communicate with Alton. It bowed when Alton responded in kind to the finger over lips gesture. It would not, however, reveal its name.
  • Alton found a water cooling circulation entrance to the palace.
  • Alton spoke with the giant ghost on the top of the tower. He identified himself as Arosmir, father of Dimir.
  • Arosmir was disappointed in his son. He called Alton a "sneak thief". He said that he was not there for the gauntlets. He possibly implied that the belt had been stolen by another.

Update on Donnie

  • Wyldo sent a message to Farren "Captain, where are you? I just heard from Donnie. She's found the treasure! Apparently there is a hammer in the way. We can’t let her win!" and a second message "Also, something about needing water breathing."
  • The captain thanked Wyldo for getting so much information from her.
