Beliefs
Residents of these islands believe Waking Peoples were once cold creatures made of clay, who lived underground, nearer to Materia’s warm heart. This was until the Fireseeds blossomed and gave them the gift of fire and bodily warmth, alowing them to populate the surface lands. Furthermore, they believe they are destined to pass this knowledge on to a new era of “clay peoples”, and that the Kula’ were not the first in this cycle. In fact, it is the infiniteness of this cycle on which their culture is based. This makes them one of the few peoples on Materia who are effectively atheistic; their mages do indeed borrow power from local spirits or make arcane assertions on reality, but treat the gods—Material and Twilight alike—as especially powerful spirits; nothing that would make them suddenly worth worshipping as they’re still infinitely smaller than the Lifecircle.
The residents of these islands call themselves either the Kula’djuwara ("defenders of the fire") or the Kula’eora ("preservers of the fire"), which can roughly be described as warrior and cultural castes, respectively. Societies are generally lead by elders of the Kula’eora, though Kula’djuwara may be allowed to take power in times of strife.Geography
Profile: A Kula' dreamspeaker. These seers play a very similar role to harvest witches in other societies, negotiating with elder spirits of the brush, rivers, fossils and sandstones to maintain a stable relationship between the spiritual and corporeal worlds.
