Transportation & Roads
The Ni'rral Empire and Forwire
The Ni'rral Empire and Forwire's vast road network originates primarily from during the Empire's rise and its golden age. Major cities tend to be connected by stone roads while smaller towns and villages tend to rely on dirt roads. While the roads used to be well maintained with regular outposts to ensure the safety of travellers, the decline of the empire has lead to both the roads and the outposts to become ill maintained and for many of the outposts to be abandoned. While the outposts are mostly gone in Forwire, the maintenance of the roads can vary greatly between the city-states as mutual agreements and rivalries greatly affects which are well kept, while others are blamed for being another city's responsibility. The transport between larger cities are typically done with horse-drawn carriages for the more well-off citizens while wagons and walking is more typical for the poor and between villages.
Drissau
Drissau is split into the northern plains and the southern jungle. The north tends towards having larger roads between the cities, though only the ones between the biggest cities are stone roads as most of the others originate from before the nation rebelled against the dragons. As a result, dirt roads are the most common within the nation but the more limited travel of the citizens means most don't see this as a major issue. The south in contrast is filled with thick jungle and rivers, forcing travellers to take winding pathways if there even are proper roads between the villages, with only the biggest ones having a proper road leading to them, and even those are not always considered safe to take for unprepared travellers without local guides. While wagons can be found in the north, it is more typical for people to be walking or using draft animals to carry their goods, while the terrain of the south hinders wagons, forcing one to walk or to bring draft animals.
Dulinri
The Dulinri tend towards having less roads due to being spread out among the islands. Instead, the tribes have smaller dirt paths that primarily connect places within the village and possibly holy sites on their islands, with mainly the islands that are big enough to support multiple tribes having dirt roads between them. Most transport is by walking if it is the same island and not near the water, or by boat and ships if it is near the water or on other islands. Of these, canoes and catamarans are among the common types, but far more exist. Particularly long journeys or those who sail more frequently such as merchants tend to have larger ships instead that can withstand the archipelago's weather.
Idran
The Idran Tribes contains forests that have both old imperial road networks and large parts of unusued area, as the tribes tend to not put unnecessary effort into keeping the roads, resulting in most of the actively used roads to be dirt. Mosto f these remain between the more established tribe settlements and important places. Most travel within Idran's territory consists of walking and riding animals, with wagons rarely being considered except when they have been looted or bought from others.
Aevir Thrones
The Aevir Thrones are different inside and outside their walls. Inside their walls, the city roads are generally paved with stone, while the roads between the cities varies between dirt and stone. These are generally well maintained and it is not unusual to find engravings made in the rock. Outside their walls is an entirely different matter, as the mountains are treacherous and only thin path markers indicate a given route is even considered a road.Draft animals and the rare wagon are used between the cities where the treacherous mountain terrain and weather can give trouble to most people. Contrasting to this is the carts that are normal to see within the walls when not walking.
