Drissau

Located in the southern-most parts of Ikune, the country consists primarily of tropical jungles and is formally lead by the upper echelons of the Iashien Order. This leadership has given the country some infamy among the other nations in Ikune, as they follow and enforce the Ieshen Creed, most notable of which is the ban of public worship of other gods, and the display of religious imagery belonging to these gods.   The nation has come a long way from the time of the dragon rule and the early designs that permitted them to get the upper hand against the dragons. Though their engineers are often sought after, Drissau has so far kept their cards close to them to avoid the other nations getting an advantage over them.

Naming

Names within Drissau tend to follow tradition, with given names often being named after historical figures. When a child is born in Drissau, it is the local church who decides the name of the child, but most follows the wishes of the parents, should they have a name in mind. Typical name: Given name | Family name.

Economy

Drissau's economy contains remnants from the time that dragons ruled over them. This is most visible where the distribution of goods are concerned, as contributions of such are collected by the Praectors, also known as overseers, who oversees it as it is placed into storage, catalogued and distributed out again to the people based on need and status.
Typically individuals within a settlement don't carry currency with them, as the Praector handles trade with passing merchants. Instead if an individual wishes to buy or sell, it is recorded and considered when it is time to distribute non-essential goods.
Should an individual plan to travel, he is given an allotment of currency by the Praector for the duration of his journey, which is considered their full stipend of non-essential goods for the expected duration they are gone, taking into account goods they have bought and sold. On their return, any remaining currency is handed back to the Praector who will mark it up.

Law and Order

To become a criminal is seen the same as losing ones faith in Drissau. Citizens arrested in the nation are typically sent to prison to atone for their sentences, with the prisons typically having religious services and counselors to help bring them back on the right path, and to find out what went wrong, with lesser crimes being simply fines and mandatory meetings with counselors to again solve the issue. Foreigners are treated similarly, but if they are judged to not be changing their ways, they are instead exiled from the country after their sentence has ended.

Culture

Though the people of Drissau often scorn the overt display of worshipping other gods than the state-pantheon, the private practice of such is considered fine. The religious aspects are however not everything in Drissau's culture, as the people of the nation are also encouraged to possess basic repair skills and are encouraged to tinker where possible to progress the nation as a whole.   Most larger cities typically contain one or more martially aligned guilds as a result of the nation's mandatory military service for almost all adults within the nation, preparing them in the event of a potential war or if the dragons should return one day. Despite the mandatory service, the nation discourages martial traditions outside of the designated guilds and the military on the reasons that the millitary will protect the citizens.   The southern parts of the nations often have it differently, as the thick jungle makes organization harder. Here, the various tribes and cities acts more independently, though they trade with eachother. Each is considered responsible for keeping their surrounding roads safe, giving the people a sense of independence even as they worship the same gods and religion that their northern halves do.

Relationships

Significant relationships have evolved ever since the nation gained their freedom, with many coming to question how is the proper way and many seeking to the church for answers. Though the church at first was reluctant to make any official decrees, they eventually relented and declared that for the common people, marriage was between two parts, while for those working for the church, how many people a person could marry was determined by their position and power within the church.

History

Drissau was once not a singular nation, but many splintered sects and groups. Dragons of the time were wild and rich before the other races acquired the means to bring them down. This ended during the draconic unification, when one of the dragon elders brought together the others to form what is today known as Drissau, a nation lead by the dragons, consisting of draconids and their 'lessers' as they were regarded at the time.   As time passed, Drissau's power rose as few could match the power of the dragons or those given their gifts, but even as a rising power in the world, those under them felt they were nothing but slaves. The supposed luxuries of the draconids only extended little above those under them as they were subject to the whims of their masters.   It came to a head during one slave rebellion, when the dragon Omra grew dissatisfied with the draconids ability to contain the slaves and keep them in check, and killed them all with the knowledge that his work with the other dragons afforded him the luxury of bringing in new people to replace them and begin anew. The news of the massacre travelled through the realm, and even the draconids began to see the non-draconids in another light.   But they were powerless, as the massacre showed. That was until an enterprising alchemist found a solution. A compound that could penetrate even the scales of the strongest dragon. Sharing his knowledge, the production of the compound began, kept secret from the dragons.
They struck on Solstice, a group of people calling themselves the Iashien lead the initial rebellion, succeeding in overthrowing several of the northern dragon territories before the others clued in to what was happening and the battle heated up. It was too late for the tide to turn however, with the other draconids and non-draconids rising up after seeing it was possible, creating chaos all over and giving the Iashien the distraction needed for them to infiltrate the capital and confront the dragon elder. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end the Iashien managed to bring down the elder at the cost of their own lives, and with him the only dragon capable of uniting so many different dragons towards a single goal.   Today, the Iashien are honored as not only the true founders of the nation, but as gods themselves that aided the people against the tyranny of the dragons.

Territories

Core Territories

The official lands of Drissau are in the southern regions of Ikune and is considered to be limited to only that which the country had upon gaining their freedom from the dragons. The lands are divided into northern and southern Drissau based on the location of Capital's Lake and the country's capital.
Southern Drissau consists of deep jungles with enormous, rapid flowing rivers and large lakes spreading through the wilds. Many ruins of old settlements and temples to the old dragons can be found within the jungles alongside with tribes and the people who remained there after they gained their freedom. Guides are often hired when unfamiliar people are trekking through the lands to avoid the risk of being lost.
Northern Drissau is more open, consisting of hilled plains and pockets of forests. The small mountains surrounding the Blessed Lake can also be found in this region, where the holiest rites of the nation are carried out.

Other Territories

Drissau also lay claims to the surrounding isles, particular the Farhal Islands. There they claim to be the leaders of the Dulinri, though they are so in little more than name and often leave the natives of the isles to their own devices as long as they facilitate the transport of goods along the coasts and in return Drissau discourages any attempts to conquer the isles by force.
