Mystryl Slums
The most densely-populated area of Mystryl is referred to as the Slums. This is rather unreasonable, as the Mystryl City Council is too proud to allow any neighborhood or district to fall into complete disrepair. However, the quality of life in the Slums is only decent rather than impressive (or nicer). The buildings are functional but not aesthetically pleasing. The environment might not be offensive to the senses of the residents or a well-traveled visitor, but it is off-putting to those expecting more from every part of the city.
That said, law enforcement resources are not invested in the Slums the way they are elsewhere in the city. Non-violent crime is a daily occurrence, and violent crime is on the rise. Most criminals — looking to avoid the prying eyes of the City Watch — know to bring their violent activities from other districts into the Slums. Even the wealthy who fall behind on a debt or cross the wrong person can be found bloodied on the cobbled streets of the Slums; the lucky stay alive.
Any business or service needed for daily living is found here. The following are some of the more prominent locations.
Mystryl Meat Shop
- Type: Butcher (shop)
- Guild Member: Yes
- Description: Mystryl Meat Shop deals with many citizens of the Slums. It doesn't often get full cattle or prime cuts, but it will buy up what it can from the Market and make it ready for home cooking. The owner keeps it as clean as he can, but he can't quite get rid of the smell.

Behind Closed Doors
- Type: House of Leisure (service)
- Guild Member: Yes
- Description: Behind Closed Doors is not quite the classy establishment that Aura House is in the Merchant District. The less fortunate, hardest working citizens need to blow off steam, and Behind Closed Doors provides a private place for gratification. Food, drink, dancing, sex, and everything else is available for the right price. While it's ostensibly part of the Entertainers Guild due to its "performance stage," it's a well-known secret that the house is run by the Guild.

The Misty Bell — East
- Type: Inn (service)
- Guild Member: Yes
- Description: This is one of two sister inns located in the Slums. Literally. Each inn is owned by one of two twin halfling sisters, together determined to build a proper chain of establishments. Lily Hilltopple owns the building on the east side of the Slums. She markets it as a safe, clean place for travelers without the means to stay in the nicest parts of town. It is known as a simple but good night's sleep.

The Lazy Chick
- Type: Tavern (service)
- Guild Member: No
- Description: This rowdy tavern is easily found by looking for the sign with a baby chicken sprawled on its back next to a tipped-over tankard. The tavern is in no way exceptional except that it's big, the biggest in the district. Arguments, fistfights, and pickpocketing is inevitable among this many drunks.

Alma's Thatching
- Type: Thatcher (shop)
- Guild Member: No
- Description: Many of the homes in the Slums are made with thatched roofs rather than shingles or stone blocks. Alma Sturdedz has put many of them on those homes. She is a skilled builder, doing her work quickly and effectively.
- Notability: Alma is known for her generous spirit. She makes and installs most thatched roofs at cost, understanding that the less wealthy of the city have more critical things to spend money on than reeds and straw. Her needs are met mostly by donations and bartering.
Razor's Edge
- Type: Barber (service)
- Guild Member: No
- Description: Razor's Edge is located in the center of the slums. It's open to all customers, and does adequate if unspectacular work. What started as a small, single-chair shop has since grown large enough for six simultaneous customers.
- Notability: While haircuts are nice, the main draw of the Edge is the conversation. People of all types gather in and around the shop to discuss city news. Since they're already in the area, folks typically make at least one other stop at a local shop before heading back home.
Mystryl Cloth Shop
- Type: Weaver (shop)
- Guild Member: No
- Description: Mystryl Cloth shop is a basic weaver's outlet. They provide adequate textiles to the tailors of the city. It isn't fancy or expensive, but it gets the job done. Basic work and adventuring outfits are often made from these textiles.

The Misty Bell — West
- Type: Inn (service)
- Guild Member: Yes
- Description: The second Misty Bell is owned by Daisy Hilltopple and is located on the west edge of the Slums. The western branch quietly markets itself to locals rather than travelers, emphasizing the complete discretion of the staff. Both Misty Bells are members of the Innkeepers Guild, but as with all the other guilds, members from the Slums do not hold much sway.
