Personal history

Roshan is the oldest of two children of King Taylan Talat and his second wife Lalzari Talat, and the third oldest of the King's four children in general. Though seven years younger than his foster-brother and cousin Beyhan, the boys were nearly identical and grew up to be men who were nearly identical in physical appearance; so much so that it was the fodder for many rumors about the parentage of both boys and the arrangements of things in the Royal family, though it was always firmly maintained that the resemblance was coincidental because his father and Beyhan's mother were siblings and his mother and Beyhan's father were as well.   Roshan was a bit of the black sheep of the family, the odd duck out as it were; he was not the favorite of any of the parental personages, and neither was he ever considered a serious contender for the throne. He was, by all accounts, a happy-go-lucky child who grew up into a fairly lackadaisical adult. He was clearly unsuited for ruling, and many were thankful they had three other heirs to choose from. Taylan did choose to use him to make an advantageous marriage with one of his fractious noble houses, and he and his wife Tawni had a son, Vadim.   Roshan was an accomplished courtesan, perhaps his only accomplishments. He knew what was in fashion, who was in with whom, what the gossip was; he could ride and hunt and hawk and dance. His family used this to their advantage, often leaving Roshan and Tawni home to "hold down the fort" and entertain otherwise bored rich nobles while serious work was being done in the background, and the couple was quite happy in this role.
