United Tribes of Mare'n

Mare'n, officially The United Tribes of Mare'n, is located on the western half of Westra. It is 67,000 m2 in area, shares the continent with the Kingdom of Delryn to the east, and shares maritime borders with the Marches of Ryfile, the Kingdom of Delryn, The Brilliant Empire, and the Principality of Staton. The capital city is Kha'r.

Society and Culture

Ethnic and Cultural Groups
Society in the Tribes is divided into two main groups - the Jungle Tribes and the Plains Tribes. The jungle tribes live primarily on the outlying islands and tend to be stationary societies, while the plains tribes inhabit the mainland and with a few notable exceptions are nomadic groups.   Population Centers
There are few cities or permanent, mapable settlements in Mare'n. Kha'r, the nation's capital, is the largest trade city and the place where the Tribes come together; it also serves as the Nation's seat of government. Berda'ri, sometimes known as the Gateway to the Plains, is a city which lies on Mare'n's border with Delryn, and serves as a final sign of colonial civilization before you venture western onto the plains. Jirahablah, located to the southwest, serves as the main port city for mainland Mare'n and the islands. Each of the islands each also has a small port city, referred to by the same names as the islands themselves - Kianit, Dya'rivah, Ra'ta, Alde'th, Suba, and Almas.   Languages
They speak their own language, originally the language of the Vasati, and some also speak Common.   Religion
Almost all tribespeople are Lirilians, practicing the Way of the Stars. Unlike most other deities of the world, Liril is still known to be fairly active in the lives of her people.

Geography

Physical Geography
Mare'n is made up of a long peninsula that forms one half of the landmass that creates the Peaceful Sea, extends into the Great Sea, and touches the Whispering Sea in the North. Another major landmark is Saera's Cliffs. The peninsula is ringed by six large islands. It shares a border with the Kingdom of Delryn to its immediate east. The entirety of the country is 67 miles2, with five of the six islands being relatively similar in size, and the island at the end of the peninsula being smaller.   Climate and Biomes
The main land mass of Mare'n is characterized mostly by plains, which give way to jungles on the western coast. The islands are composed and tropical forest and rainforest habitats. The country experiences four seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), but rather than a true winter they have a cool dry season, with a hot wet season occuring in the summer. In the summer temperatures can reach over 110* in the jungles and rainforests and the plains in the heat of the day. Daytime temperatures stay mild in the winter, though overnight temperatures can drop to just above freezing on the plains.

Geopolitics

Government
Mare'n has a very loose governmental system therein which each tribe is eligible to send an elder or a scholar to Kha'r to sit on the First Council. This body serves three purposes: to preserve both the written and oral histories of the Tribes in the Great Library, to adjucate any judicial matters which are brought to their attention, and to summon the full Tribemeet at least once every five years or at any time it is needed.

Not every Tribe will send a member to sit on the First Council; some smaller tribes will send one person to represent several tribes and some tribes eschew the practice entirely. However, every Tribe is bound by the rulings of the Tribemeet, so every tribe will send a representative to the Tribemeet if at all possible.   Foreign Relations
The United Tribes have no official relationships to any other country; though they trade with many countries, none of it is regulated at the national level. They are friendliest with the people of Ryold and Delryn, and hold a generally low opinion of The Empire, keeping an eye on that world power though it has, for the most part, so far left them alone.
    Economy
Mare'n is mostly self-sufficient, but there is a steady export mainly of fine horses, hounds, hunting cats, textiles, exotic foods, exotic woods, and medicines. In return, they mainly import metals, gems, furs and other luxury items, as well as some spices, glass, wax, and oil.

The coat of arms of Mare'n is Fusily blood-red and tan a horse rampant gold.
