As we continue on, we're starting to get rather bored with travel. Argus is just sitting and thinking, looking very confused; Sigh is ... I'm not sure what she's doing, but it probably involves stealing things; Medic is tending the wounded; and I'm practicing my archery when I'm not running alongside the wagons.
Once we arrive at Nadari, Medic follows the wounded to the House of Healing, not willing to release his patients to strangers without inspecting the facilities first. The rest of us head for the military's campground just outside the city walls. Argus gets directions to, among other places, a bathhouse . Definitely well past time for a proper bath. And thoroughly cleaned and mended clothes. And ... I guess a shopping trip is in order. [[Tresso, southernmost village/city in explored section of island.]]
[[Adyon Kelper, acquaintance of Sigh's]]
Sigh spots something that intrigues her, and runs off; I climb up and follow from the roof. It's a couple of toughs, and they seem to be discussing us and how we might affect their plans. [[Adyon "Addie" Kelper is one; the other (Tom Wetreed) will be around camp tomorrow and wants Sigh pointed out to him.]]
The Fine Gentlemen is, as the name suggests, a fine establishment for gentlemen. The gentlemen's guard at the door is reluctant to let us enter, but he consults his boss [Lord Green] and we're allowed in provided that we promise not to get violent...and we leave our weapons at the door. My sling stays with me.
Terpy, a servant, leads us to a table where (presumably) Lord Green is sitting. We're greeted warmly as acquaintances, and offered a drink menu to choose from. I order a Southern Green Exotic Tea, apparently something extremely expensive from the south. I hope I have enough coin to pay for it.
[swords hidden behind draperies; windows have multiple locks; Sigh's thieves' cant test was noticed by a servant but the response was not noted by Sigh.]
Argus engages the lord in conversation, discussing recent events and other topics as both sides seek new information. A servant whispers a message to Lord Green about a fire across the street, suggesting evacuation. Lord Green makes an announcement to the room, and servants bring us our weapons, urging us to follow them out the back.
Once outside, Sigh notices a trio of suspicious-looking people duck around the corner and follows them. Mildly curious, I also follow. Turns out she's spotted some thieves using the chaos of the fire to break into the club through a back wall shared with an unused building. Going back to the back door of the club, the servant who knows thieves' cant is standing guard. When he challenges them (Argus is following Sigh much more closely than I'm bothering to), Sigh tells him that his night is about to get worse and she needs to get inside. Argus tries to threaten the guy, and weapons are drawn. The servant tries to run, and Argus grabs him. I snap at him to let go of his captive and go inside to help Sigh. At about this time, Medic and Lord Green arrive, and I head slowly inside - mostly to get away.
[[Sigh finds the room the thieves are trying to get into and steals some of the jewelery stored there (including the Lord Green's wife's jewels). She stalls for time when Argus arrives, wanting to let the thieves break in, see her, and leave, hoping that they will then take the blame for her thievery. She then sneaks out the front (we're all at the back), planning to kill some time before meeting up with us back at camp.]]
A few minutes later, Argus comes out with an unconscious captive but no Sigh. He turns the thief over to Lord Green. As he makes his way out of the crowd, he gives some money [3 platinum] to a family displaced by the fire. Overwhelmed by the people, I slip away over the rooftops. [Argus finds a weaponsmith and sells some of the weapons he's picked up and commissions an upgrade for his shield. I spend several hours on the wall, watching the stars.]
