Waking up, I'm back in the tree I went to bed in. Something seems ... odd, as though I'm forgetting something important. Checking through my gear, I find that my sling has been replaced - or maybe "upgraded" is the better term. It feels magical, as if the dragon blessed it or something. I send out a silent "thank you". A magic weapon is always helpful, and an unexpected gift is even better.
Three figures approach the camp, requesting help. They seem to be in something of a delicate situation, as they ask to speak to us privately. Argus insists on taking them to see our commander, not trusting strangers.
The strangers were investigating some ruins of a monastery about two miles into the woods when one of their party simply vanished. Sir Lorsil, our commander, offers to let us aid the strangers, giving us four hours before we need to be back with the caravan.
[3 monks asking for help: Rek Rin, Linias, Kravhon (orcish ancestry Windros Miller is the missing 4th]
Entering the underground portion of the ruined monastery, the monks lead us to where their companion disappeared. Examining the area, we find nothing that might explain the disappearance. Exploring further, we find no evidence of anything that might account for the missing monk. The walls of the place are bare stone, undecorated, except for a short inscription in one of the rooms. It appears to be an ancient form of Common, although the sample is too short and weathered to be certain.
In one corridor, we encounter a ghost. A pair of them, actually. They initially call us "thieves", and are quite terrifying, but Sigh is able to convince them that we're here to retrieve a missing comrade (whom they've taken captive to question) and, as the monks interject, wake the ki-rin and escort it home (they're apparently neighbors). At this, the ghosts become eager to help - their task has been to protect the ki-rin until it wakes, and in life they tried everything they could think of to no avail.
As we consider what to try first, Sigh has a brilliant idea: Maybe Galveligh, the silver dragon we met in our shared dream, knows how to wake this creature. Turns out that not only does the dragon know how to wake the ki-rin, but she knows this one personally. She joins us in the ruined monastery and is able to wake her friend.
