Enter the Tower

by Paladin of the Ancients Reinys Ylyndar

After over a month in Stronghold, the group I had joined and was now the leader of, finally made their way to the Starlit Tower. This academy was the entire reason that Father had sent me here in the first place instead of just sending me to the Elven capital where I could be constantly watched by some of the other traveling paladins. I was here to bring back knowledge, to hopefully expand the library of Yllvalion, but my time here had greatly changed what I considered to be my destiny. Mother obviously knew that as she sent Syndra to be by my side, but I still needed to finish the mission that Father had given me.

Yldris was happy to get out a move again. While he had been well taken care of by the small girl in the stables, he was not used to confined spaces. At home, he preferred to roam and run until he was tired, chasing the elk and playing with the small children in the streets. This life of lazy luxury was not what he enjoyed. He tried to outpace the others as we traveled the ten miles to the tower, but I had to reign him in, otherwise, we would leave the others far behind.

A word of warning above the door greeted us. We were told not to remove things from the tower as we deciphered the various languages of the warning. While I knew Squall and I would very easily heed the warning, I worried about some of the others in the group that would very easily fall into the trap of greed that a place like this could bring. As we entered into the large tower, I was in awe of the size of the place, reaching stories above us but the center of the tower was open and bright. Bookcases lined with books covered the walls with stairs growing out of the shelves. I wanted to run to the top and see all that I could see, but I knew we were here for a reason.

I have had very few dealings with halflings over my years, but I never thought such sass and disrespect could survive in such a small body. The man was rude, extremely so, and I could tell that his mannerisms were getting under Squall's skin. He took the cultist's item from her for inspection and we continued up the stairs to see as much as we could.

Every room was full of magic, various kinds and people of all levels. It was a wonder to see such patience and practice, making me wish that I had time to spend here and learn new things. Very soon we had to return to the ground floor to hear from the halfling, which all of us were dreading. He was once again rude, especially to the warforged, but unfortunately, we needed the halfling if we wished to speak to the headmaster about the job in the tower. That was the other reason we had came, and we needed to see it through.
