I did not want to be writing this in the early hours of the morning, but that is where I find myself, pouring over my tattered leather journal after spending the hours after the banquet filling out paperwork. The group I have traveled with for a handful of days has now been officially recognized by the Dagger Guild, allowing us to recruit more people as we travel. A unanimous vote found me as their leader, as the cleric did not wish to have any part of the grind of paperwork and leadership.
This is not what I expected when I came to Stronghold. This is not the role Father had expected of me, yet I relish in being able to lead and help others. The others have skills that I do not, but I have spent nearly two centuries of my life learning how to lead others, especially those that partake in combat. It is a grand feeling not to have my brothers looking over my shoulder as I take up a position of leadership, but in some ways, that is a daunting feeling.
Kel, the guild leader here, spent the hours with me, explaining things and working through the paperwork. I am 300 years old yet this made me feel like a child again, sitting on Father's lap as he explained things. This time, the consequences were a bit more real. As the others joked light-heartedly about the rules we were making and the requirements for others to join our group, I worried about the situations where they may be harmed, or worse. As I continued through the paperwork, that worry almost became reality.
The first new member of our group was Khalsinn. I knew her briefly from when Father would meet with the barbarian tribe from the Spine. She remembered me, briefly speaking to me about our times of past meeting. She chose to take my place as the lead as the party decided to hunt for cultists. When they returned in the wee hours of the morning, many of them were worn and tattered, much like this journal I write in.
Khalsinn recounted the evening's events to me quickly before retiring for the night. Our previous meetings, although short, have made us become fast friends. She is a great asset to our party, I'm glad she made the trip from the Spine.
