After everything we had survived so far, our last day in the Depths was surprisingly uneventful. Those that had posted sentries for us during the night reported back that a giant snake had crossed our path, and for the time being, we were fine to just leave the creature be.
As we set out that morning, we traveled to the camp where the halfling in Ashborne had noted a ghost. Many things were odd about the camp. Things were not disturbed as they should be. One wagon was completely empty, and the trail and evidence pointed to goblins. But the longer we looked, the less it seemed like goblins and the more it seemed like we had stumbled upon possibly another group of cultists. The warlock knew more, but as I sit to write this, I don't exactly remember the details. Hopefully they will return soon and I can add to my account here.
The information we gathered in the camp seemed important, but the others treated it as something somewhat trivial and we moved on, setting our sights on the giant snake. If anything, that was the most interesting part of anything that has happened since we left Stronghold. The ranger was torn between killing and befriending until the snake made its motives known. At that point, we only had one option.
Small snakes twist and writhe in the throes of death, but nothing could prepare you to watch a giant snake doing the same thing. It was a sight to be seen, and I am glad I could witness such a comical sight. After barely surviving the battle, we disassembled the giant creature with ease, no small feat with a creature of that size. From there, we continued on to Kestel with no incident, and for that, I think the others were glad.
Once in Kestel, we commissioned armor from our newly gathered hide and chose to wait a few days until the others could catch up to us. Khalsinn had been put in charge of those that would travel behind from Stronghold, the only blessing of this damned trip so far. Now it was on to the lake and further still, something that seemed almost impossible with the trouble that the group attracted. But we would make it, one way or another, even if it meant I had to always stand in front.
