Blythe approaches the Azerak guards and convinces them to let her see Varen, while Kelsa and Drevlin attempt to break in
Varen tells her that Sarah and Lord Coldwill are upstairs writing a letter to the Hahn cousins
suggests that to be lady of the estate, Blythe would need to break the contract in place with the Death Mother
and Blythe is not yet old enough to run things and be heir
suggests that Blythe could be a servant in the house
convince Varen to let her see Sarah (and Marlie, Cordelia, and Elli are at the dining table; Cordelia talks with Coldwill)
in father’s workshop, he was apparently working on a strange project: a mechanical person with gun pieces
with Varen and Sarah, come up with the idea to make Varen the executor of the estate and Kelsa the heir until Blythe is “resurrected” in paperwork (costing around 500 gp)
Blythe is considered dead by the government, her death certificate states she died of the plague
Sarah agrees to Blythe’s idea if Indigo comes and apologizes for what he said the day before
outside, Blythe and Indy see Coldwill take Cordelia by the hand and fly into the air with her; Blythe asks Indigo to apologize, if he is willing to, so she and Kelsa can help orphans with the estate
Indigo gives a long apology speech, calling himself stupid but also warning Sarah that Kelsa shouldn’t be trusted
Sarah, satisfied with Indy’s apology, begins to draw up the paperwork with Varen to make Varen executor and Kelsa the heir to the Hahn estate
(Post Session)
Blythe sends a message to Drevlin telling him the plan, calling Kelsa “Lady Pickles;” the phrase makes her cry but she is uncertain why
Blythe explores her father’s workshop, looking over the strange metal person; a lever connects it to electricity
find father’s notes in his study: “The papers have various mathematical formulae and charcoal sketches of humanoid anatomy but drawn in a mechanical fashion, gears and ball joins replacing synovial joints and iron rods replacing bones. As you flip through you see a design for an outer husk which is far more elegant in design, but resembles the iron creature. The next couple of pages are detailed drawings of parts and some sort of root-like system, and then a page of a fully realized metal creature in elegant design with a large cannon on its arm as it stands in a battle pose as if firing the weapon, it even includes drawings that display fire effects of the arm cannon.”
Sarah tells Blythe: “ever since you left, he was wracked with worry at first but then he started drawing, and drawing”
Blythe worries over Sarah’s safety, but she reveals there are invisible guards from Azerak all around the house
in the study with us is Vincent; at the front door are Damocles and Sajani
Vincent informs Blythe that Kelsa is downstairs, and Blythe lets her inside
Marlie and Elli have made cookies with Varen; Marlie has collected her mother’s box from the cabbage garden
Blythe takes Kelsa and Helwyn upstairs behind Varen
Kelsa comments on her father’s metal soldier, calling it a “warforged”
she says her mother’s place of work had a bouncer called Disbonerator, with a de-boning knife
a company called Redbolt is developing them in the Freelands; she overheard this while a Vulcanus agent was paying for the info
Kelsa whips a dagger at Vincent while he is invisible, thinking they were trying to kill either her or Blythe
Vincent is virtually unharmed by the dagger, and charms Kelsa
Kelsa introduces herself as Kelsandra Angela Asheborn
Helwyn very jealous as Vincent and Kelsa flirt
Varen leads Helwyn out of the room, leaving Kelsa, Sarah, Blythe, and Vincent
Vincent releases the charm on Kelsa at Sarah’s request, and she goes to attack him again, though stops
Sarah says Kelsa needs to sign documents signing over the family’s entire fortune to her (estate, assets, etc. must send a request for a writ of nobility to the palace with Sarah’s sign-off leaving everything to her; then the clergy will certify the documents and make it legally binding and magically unalterable; she will then need to assign personal staff
Kelsa says she wants a cut of the household profits for life, even after she has relinquished the estate back to me
Kelsa shows Blythe that the current contract that Varen drew up has her getting nothing after the deal is done; Kelsa’s arm begins to light up and glow with magenta and green tattoos like vines, and her eyes glow with magenta
Blythe recognizes this as some manner of fey magic that is similar to a geas, and the “victim” needs to comply
she asks for 10%, Sarah starts having a panic attack
Sarah calms down a bit and Kelsa “instead” asks for “a hundred for every thousand”
neither Blythe nor Sarah catch the issue and they agree, the vines on Sarah glowing as they shake hands
Kelsa goes downstairs, leaving Blythe, Sarah, and Vincent
Blythe tells Sarah she’s done some bad things while living on the streets, and that Kelsa saved her life
Sarah replies that she killed Juliard because she was “hungry,” and nothing could be worse
Blythe tells her she started the docks fire
Sarah tells her no, Tesla Vulcanus started the docks fire: Maric’s big sister
“she got Andrew in trouble that time at the Waters Masquerade”
rumors: she was “trying to follow some nonsense about ascended gods, others say she just got too angry and lost control and you know how mages are; Lord Jebadiah Alderoak swears she was trying to become some sort of fire elemental”
Blythe worried she may have to swear allegiance to Vulcanus because she’s a mage; Sarah responds “you’re just a deer girl”
Blythe, insulted, shows her a spell (in front of Vincent)
father told her “a deer god and that the king of the forest was mad, so he cursed you, so father had to send you away to keep all the Hahns from going bankrupt”
Blythe returns downstairs, finding everyone in the servants’ quarters
Cordelia is leaving for Lord Coldwill’s tonight, and she is going to learn blood magic from his mother in order to “undo death”
Blythe expresses concern that people are supposed to stay dead, like those her godmother escorts
Marlie is going to work in the Hahn kitchens and learn magic from Goldie (her cat??)
Elli is sad because she yelled at Marlie and Drevlin about the fire
Blythe apologizes for what happened to Indy, but doesn’t want to tell him, that he’ll “pass judgment”
Elli assures her that she will talk with him, and he wouldn’t hurt anyone
Elli needs to visit the Temple of Vek to find Father Zaius’ friend before she can decide who she will go with: Hahns or Coldwill
sitting with Helwyn
she says before the “mom thing,” aka Kelsa’s mother being killed by street gang, Kelsa was less “stoic and serious”
realize that Kelsa’s name, Asheborn, is one of the great 9 magical families of the world: the last living Asheborn was Saint Nelocon Alderson, whose father was Mekullona Asheborn
