Session 17 (4/20/22)

by Blythe Hahn

  • Xai 30th, 3e658

  • we go to the Palace District, to my parents’ estate, to try to find Sarah

  • a massive red orb of magic surrounds the wealthiest part of New Hightown, centered on Adrian Vulcanus’ estate

  • guards patrol the orb wearing Vulcanus colors

  • pass by the Trembly estate, Dax’s home, but are told he is not home

  • Hahn estate

  • Blythe hides as the others knock, but comes out as she hears Sarah pop out a window to acknowledge them

  • Varen, the butler, lets them into the house for an “audience with the lady”

  • the others are led away by servants to be cleaned while Blythe goes with Varen

  • Blythe finds her room remains untouched, kept exactly as she left it; Varen says it was because her mother hoped she would return one day

  • Varen mentions a contract involving Blythe

  • Varen tells her not to ask about Sarah’s eyes or complexion

  • returning downstairs, in full regalia, Sarah meets us in the salon

  • Sarah is paler, with glowing eyes; her entire body is covered with clothes

  • once Varen and the other servants leave, she breaks down; then so does Blythe and the other girls

  • when Cordelia talks, Sarah looks at her and says she needs to leave

  • a black, cold mist comes through the walls and turns into a young man with white hair

  • introduces himself as Lord Thomas Coldwill, and he intends to adopt Sarah into Azerak house, as she has become a vampire

  • Sarah says she was sneaking out of the house and was attacked outside a bar by what Cordelia assumes was a Krell vampire

  • Sarah admits she killed a servant in her bloodlust, and that father was preparing to hand her over to the hunters when Lord Coldwill stepped in and offered her a place in Azerak

  • Coldwill also offers a place to Cordelia and “her friends”

  • Indy, mad at Sarah’s callousness regarding killing the servant, tells her she lacks morals and misty steps out; Varen grabs him and he calls her an old hag

  • Varen smacks him and washes his mouth out with soap

  • Sarah dismisses all of us

  • (Post Session)
  • Blythe asks Cordelia about Lord Coldwill and vampires

  • Cordelia tells her that vampires sleep in coffins

  • as they discuss the day’s events, Cordelia tells her she wants to “undo death”

  • Drevlin rips off his suspenders and trips as Indigo asks the group what they “want”

  • Drevlin shows Blythe that he has stolen two books from her parents’ salon; she apologizes, saying the interesting ones are up in father’s study

  • Elli reveals that Iodell stabbed her when she left the church

  • Blythe tells Indigo: “I don't want to hurt people. I know there are other ways. But sometimes there's only one way.”

  • Indigo leaves to return to the Squalls

  • Blythe asks him to forgive Sarah if he can

  • he responds: “I hope that you can forgive me for the way I acted in your home. I realize that I need to learn about the world more and the different types of people that fill it. I want to know that when I strike down evil, it's the right thing, because if not then I'm just a murderer. I promise you that I won't pass final judgment upon your sister until I am educated enough to know I speak true.”

  • Elli and Drevlin begin to argue, and Elli is furious that Drevlin won’t tell Indigo the truth about the fire; as Blythe realizes she knows, she panics and vomits

  • Elli flees down the streets, and Cordelia pursues her

  • meanwhile, Drevlin and Blythe argue about if what happened to Indy was their fault

  • regardless, Blythe does not want Indy to find out, and says they can’t let Elli tell him: “There are people dead from that fire, Marlie. He thinks Sarah is evil because she accidentally killed one person. I don't know how many we killed.”

  • something wrong has happened with Elli, as she seems to be freezing; we bring her back to the Pickle house, in time to hear a strange roar on the wind

  • as Elli recovers, Kelsa forces her and Cordelia to make up and tells Elli they are going to help orphans stuck in the rubble

  • Cordelia tells Kelsa about Lord Coldwill, and she suggests we all go

  • Drevlin refuses to leave Kelsa, and Blythe refuses to leave Drevlin and Kelsa, and doesn’t want anyone else to get her family’s estate

  • “I...don't know if I can ever go back home. But I know if Sarah and I both go with Coldwill...it wouldn't be ours anymore. My father always says that our legacy is most important.”

  • Blythe and Drevlin argue about the morals of poor people vs. rich people

  • Blythe tells Drevlin he’s more similar to the Vulcanus than he might think, and that they all steal to survive

  • Kelsa hatches a plan to steal the documents from the Hahn estate and make Blythe the lady of the house: “If you were the "lady of the house" would you be willing to employ orphans, and provide them food and shelter?”

  • Cordelia and Blythe leave to find Helwyn, looking in the bars of Lowtown

  • Blythe expresses concern that Kelsa doesn’t entirely understand what she’s getting into with the nobles/wealthy

  • also tells Cordelia that Helwyn kissed Kelsa

  • enter a pub where a white kobold is performing, Helwyn and a girl who looks very similar but older are watching the performance, drunk

  • the other girl, who is introduced as Helwyn’s older sister Karlie, leads us back to the Pickle house (mentions something about Helwyn and an “initiation”)

  • Blythe and Cordelia tell them about the storm and the people frozen in the ice

  • Helwyn says she trapped Dax in his family’s larder

  • Karlie calls the storm a “eisstromungssturm,” the norman word for ice-flow-storm, says it was likely magic

  • “A warning from the gods that you done wrong, probably not you though, probably the Dancers up at the palace.”

  • “We have them often out in the islands, but they usually are no more then half a mile wide and we rarely see any greater then 2 miles across. They hit unlucky villages and tribes once every few years usually killing anyone in the radius.”

  • “When the gods swing a hammer they destroy the mountains, the elk and rabbit that get buried beneath can't stop a crumbling mountain.”

  • as they reach the Pickle house, Karlie reveals that it was her father’s house, and she grew up here and owns it currently

  • at the Pickle house, Karlie’s arrival awakens everyone else; she and Kelsa have some rivalry

  • Karlie Ursinsdottir

  • Karlie plays with the girls, revealing her alternate form: a were-polar bear

  • Karlie is able to communicate with Elli in her strange language (Draconic)
