Field Tests
*CLICK! Nichol's voice sounds different. Less watery, a little more crisp.*
"Holy crap, I was right! I thought something was different, but-"
*Pause. A few deep breaths. Nichol continues, sounding calmer.*
"Okay, I need to explain this. Or document it. Or both - however Lio does this science stuff. I already talked how I got mauled really bad on the mission to the otter planet. That whole thing left me in the hospital for a while with my injuries. At one point it was kind of touch and go, so I told the docs to try something desperate. I still had that tooth from the Kukla, so I told them to try to use whatever magic juice they could get out of it to help with the whole keeping me upright thing. It worked, yeah, but once I got back out and started back into training, I noticed a few things different. First, I couldn't use my cigarette trick to make fire anymore, no matter how hard I tried. Second, a lot of my normal tricks had more of a chill to them, even when it was just making windstorms and the like. And then when I did a good bit of it, I could see my breath like I was out in the snow, no matter how warm it was.
"So, I tried doing some tests, to see how far I could push that. And... well, I do look and feel a lot cooler."
*A few seconds pass.*
"...right, no pictures to this. Crap. I ended up taking the form I took on the Kukla planet. Different shirt, the dress, everything. I know I sound a little different, and I can tell my ice stuff feels stronger, too. Not sure how much stronger yet. I'll have to test it out later."
"And get some pictures, too. I mean - this is really AWESOME! I love this!" *A beat passes.* "I, uh, I mean, it's usefu - oh, crap, oh crap, I'm embarrassing mys-"
