Picking up where I left off last time. The High Sheklomancer Flavius McHickingbotham de Banzi Haight Gilbear Von Bismarck Esquire "The Untaxed, The Tax Evader, PhD in Taxes, Tax Collector Slayer, Accidental Treasurer Slayer, Assembler of the Legendary Tax Evasion Machine, Bank Climber, Co-contributor of the Ponzi Scheme, Bank Demolisher, Tax Revolutionary, Money Warrior, Pyramidic Schemer, Hoarder of Pennies, Renegade of Banking, Enemy of Merchants, Richest of Peasants, Tamer of the Brass Winds Holder of not Enough Money", our blue devil guide (we've been calling him "Shek") helped us bypass what would've likely been a few more days of exploration and took us to a really big room. At least a hundred feet by a hundred feet, with ice pools around the four corners and a giant pile of papers and books in the center, near some desks.
Then the giant pile turned into a paper golem, it was massive. We set it on fire, hoping it would just burn. It didn't die, and I think the fire only made the situation worse. I was almost set on fire, and the other fire near be burned a lot. We had it mostly under control though, but I guess it almost eat Squeak. I tried to get its attention and get it to follow me over an ice pit. Forrester turned into a Hydra and started murderizing it, which ruined that plan, so I tried to dig Squeak out of the mass of paper, and almost died in the process. Then he got out on his own. I still got more burn marks. From there I let the rest of the team handle it. Wrapped the burns in cloth I chilled with the ice, it helped.
They killed it, finally. From here, Snow and Squeak began looting the aforementioned desks, and clockman nabbed all the magic scrolls and books he could get to before the other two. I'm kind of tired of stealing, though, and these quite clearly belonged to someone. They were research notes and alchemical ingredients, I have a similar setup in my shop. The mimics were one thing, as we the books on the shelves, but this was interrupting and damaging ongoing experiments and research. I left a note explaining the situation, along with the Ad-Si alloy clock I made last year. I also offered compensation for the things stolen from his research labs and personal notes, which will mostly be in the form of me directly returning a large portion of my personal share of the loot division. If that cannot cover it, I'll ask the Guild to cover remaining expenses; our reputation is on the line, after all.
And now we're finally out. After spending... how many days? in that endless library, we're finally out. Honestly though, how can it be called an endless library is the books weren't even organized? It's really just a plane in which the walls are disorganized bookshelves, thinking about it. I couldn't, for the life of me, find any more books about clocks. Just the one I got from the real library, and a sliver of a book I salvaged from the golem. Half of the first page, only thing of note is the publisher and some copyright information. Which, now that I think about it, would allow me to locate another copy. I'll look into it later.
