Damian Valerus

High Inquisitor Damian Valerus was the highest ranking Inquisitor in the city of Zavya and one of the most powerful Inquisitors in the Imperium.

Background

Valerus was murdered during a theatre show, and the culprit was never caught. The Imperial Hospitaller have gone to great lengths to resurrect him to no avail. This has unsettled the people of the city, as no one can explain what could keep him from being brought back to life.

Developments

The party learns that Luka was the killer, seeking revenge for the murder of his wife and child. They also learn that Luka trapped the Inquisitor's soul in a pocket mirror of black glass. Where Luka got this mirror, he never reveals or does not know. Over time, it becomes clear that Luka is periodically possessed by the soul of Valerus. He has no memory of these possessions. Valerus' soul may have been released from the mirror when Simak replaced it with the soul of Rahadin, or it may still possess Luka. However, when the party later encounters Luka again in the Wachterhaus, it seems that Luka is in fact still himself, which means the soul of Valerus may be lost in the Mists. According to Inquisitor Ezmerelda d’Avenir, Valerus orchestrated the closing of the College of Westermount just before the party was transported to the Dibril Valley.
