AinA ToD-Avengers session 05.01 Report

General Summary

Revelsday, 6th Flowers, 17 CA:   Early afternoon
  • The Heroes of Greenfields are finishing up an enjoyable meal at Lillian's family's home when three strangers arrive.
  • A robed man that some recognize as Master Ariamus Brannerson, the husband of Lady Alana of Westport is accompanied by two others.
  • One of the others immediately rushes forth, removing her hood as she does; it is Thialia Shadowborn.
  • The former allies greet each other and pleasantries are exchanged.
  • The other fellow is another fellsworn; he introduces himself as Mallacht.
  • Ariamus queries the heroes as to what they've decided.
  • The group informs him that Elthrithi, Jarmash, and Rhys will continue their pursuit of the Dragon Cult and their loot.
  • Elrdron, Kelsie, and Lillian will accompany the prisoner, Lissa back to Last Bend to answer for the murder of Orvustia Esseren.
  • Ariamus notes these things and asks when everyone plans to get going.
  • The first group indicates that they will leave immediately and the second group quickly follows suit.
  • Ariamus nods and indicates that he'll need to go release the prisoner to the charge of the second group.
  • He follows by suggesting the first group take Thialia and Mallacht with them and head to the North Gate to get more information about possible contraband coming by or through the city; says they could be of use.
  • Rhys, Jarmash, and Elthrithi say their goodbyes and then head to the north of Westport with Mallacht and Thialia accompanying them.
  • The new group of allies passes out of the city through the North Gate and unto the grounds of commerce where all goods coming into the city are supposed to pass through.
  • Jarmash's questioning of the locals falls on deaf ears until the adventurers find and ask the same questions of the quartermaster on duty.
  • The quartermaster doesn't have much information to offer but is convinced that what the heroes are asking is important so he agrees they can question his workers in turn about any strange happenings in the area that might suggest the Cult of the Dragon came through there.
  • For a while, the questioning doesn't lead anywhere.
  • Finally, one of the workers has something to offer.
  • He tells a tale of someone he knows on the night shift who saw some strange things.
  • Mentions that an unusually large group arrived outside the gate and a very unique "dragon-person" was part of the entourage.
  • Adds that his friend didn't remember what happened after that; that there was nothing but a haze after the strange merchants arrived.
  • None of the other workers have anything to the adventurers.
  • The quartermaster reacts to the story that the party relays to him and suggests that the description of the dragon-person probably means someone in the city would have noticed their presence in the subsequent days.
  • He assumes that the smugglers were no longer in the city and suggests as much.
  • The heroes decide they'll decide things for themselves after questioning the night shift for themselves.
  • They head away from the gathering area and decide to take a rest as they wait for the night shift to come online.
Restsday, 7th Flowers:   After midnight
  • An hour after midnight, the party returns to the mustering grounds north of the North Gate of Westport to continue their inquiry.
  • They question the night crew of the quartermaster and these all corroborate the details they already know from before.
  • All of those on duty three nights previous indicate they remember the large group of arrivals and the distinctive-looking dragon-person.
  • They also remember that they have no further recollections of that evening's proceedings.
  • Further inquiry with the City Guardsmen at the gate reveal that a large group did indeed arrive but they didn't pass into the city beyond the wall even though the quartermaster's crew advised the guards on duty that the arrivals had been processed.
  • The guardsmen instead reveal that the strange merchants left the grounds not long after arrival and headed north.
  • The heroes seize on this clue and immediately ride north, bound for the Carnath Roadhouse at the southern edge of the Greymoor salt marsh.
  Twinceday, 9th Flowers:   After midday
  • Not long after midday, the adventurers arrive at the Carnath Roadhouse after an uneventful day and a half of hard riding.
  • A couple of campers outside of the structure query the party and tell them that they should see the boss, Bog Luck.
  • They go inside the structure and are approached by an orc-kin man in his middle ages.
  • He introduces himself as Bog Luck and asks them if they're there to work; warns them they'd best be on their way if they're not.
  • The party interrogates the boss and things quickly turn adversarial.
  • Then Elthrithi notices Bog Luck's blade at his side and that the sheathe is decorated in a manner similar to the garb she's seen the cult leads wear.
  • She attacks and a quick battle follows.
  • Three others join the boss in defending against the new arrivals.
  • Bog's luck ends as the adventuring party kills him and one of the others.
  • The rest surrender when the boss is felled.

The magic items you create with this feature are effectively prototypes of permanent items.   Infusions Known   When you gain this feature, pick four artificer infusions to learn, choosing from the “Artificer Infusions” section at the end of the class’s description. You learn additional infusions of your choice when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Infusions Known column of the Artificer table.   Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the artificer infusions you learned with a new one.   Infusing an Item   Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch a non-magical object and imbue it with one of your artificer infusions, turning it into a magic item. An infusion works on only certain kinds of objects, as specified in the infusion’s description. If the item requires attunement, you can attune yourself to it the instant you infuse the item. If you decide to attune to the item later, you must do so using the normal process for attunement (see “Attunement” in chapter 7 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide). Your infusion remains in an item indefinitely, but when you die, the infusion vanishes after a number of days have passed equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1 day). The infusion also vanishes if you give up your knowledge of the infusion for another one.   You can infuse more than one nonmagical object at the end of a long rest; the maximum number of objects appears in the Infused Items column of the Artificer table. You must touch each of the objects, and each of your infusions can be in only one object at a time. Moreover, no object can bear more than one of your infusions at a time. If you try to exceed your maximum number of infusions, the oldest infusion immediately ends, and then the new infusion applies.
