Once, long ago, in an age of Gods, a council of twelve were formed to face the threat of the primordial demi-god,
Nalista. The gods themselves were too afraid to face the one other being that could end their eternal lives, so
Zarian, Son of the Ascended gathered eleven others with the strength to rival the gods to lead the mortals to their own salvation. He founded the Citadel of Obsidian, which is now known as
The Citadel of Knaeva, making it the seat of their order, preparing the face the enemy that arrived in the east.
Founding the Council
He began by gathering his siblings,
Kanerast and
Lariel, with their strength alone being envied by many across Aither. He then found the eldest of the demi gods,
Tamsin, the Lost Guardian, who was more than ready to defend the life of the world that she dedicated herself to protect. Next were the three dragon lords of
Dranocast,
Urill-ith,
Icinder and
Bastenri, The First Fallen. Being the closest to the east, they did not want to contest with such a force along, joining Zarian rather eagerly. A trio of nomads would find themselves at the gates of the Citadel of Obsidian, telling Zarian that his mother had guided them to him. He knew nothing of these three, but trusted his mother's judgement enough to allow them to join his ranks, being impressed by both their displays of power and their shared wisdom. The last to join the council is perhaps the strangest. Zarian would witness the fleeting wings of a
Harbingers of the Raven Queen leave behind an entirely new being, which huddled in the corner of his balcony. This was
Yezra Crescenthart, the spawn of a Harbinger, and the last of the twelve.
He would give each a throne of obsidian, presenting them all as equals; however, each clearly saw Zarian as their leader. He is the one they followed when it came time to face Nalista. Despite all their strength, along with the mortals that followed them for their own salvation, The Council suffered heavy losses. All three of the nomads would fall to the primordial half god, along with Bastenri. Lariel too would fall, leading to Nalista only being sealed away in
The Cursed Isles.
After Nalista
After Kanerast attempted to revive Lariel, who's body had been entirely disintegrated, he turned her into an undead, going mad in the attempt. Zarian sealed them both away in
The Nichteil, disbanding The Council in his grief. This allowed the two surviving dragon lords and the Guardian of the Grove to return to their duties. No one knows what happened to Zarian or Yezra after this, with their names being almost lost to history. That is until Kanerast found his way out of
The Nichteil, which naturally caused talk of the Council to reemerge. Years later, it would be found that Zarian was attempting to reform the Council after his involvement in the assassination of
King Florian Meitner.
