Velbrina Colar

The apprentice of Avalencia's current Archmage, Zyn Khalazza, Velbrina, usually referred to as Vel for simplicity, is considered a talented mage in her own right, despite her reputation for being somewhat of a klutz. Ironically, she chooses to specialise in alchemy, which leads to no end of annoyance for her master, given her constant destruction of glass vials. Despite this, her results speak for themselves, and the strong student - master relationship she shares with Zyn keeps her from ever being scolded too much, often ending in a laugh between the two.

Personal history

Survivor of Thantheas

Velbrina was considered a mere child when the Planes Gates in Thantheas were opened, allowing the massacre of the city's people to take place. Hiding in a shelter with the other adolescences, she managed to be largely unharmed by the initial onslaught, but found herself helpless as the creatures of the Shadowfell broke through. She believed that the end was imminent, watching as her friends were killed in front of her, only to be saved by The Gauntlet of Kitzstadt., who managed to liberate the few that survived, with Velbrina being among them.
She was saved specifically by Tharla Olyth, who was the one that was able to destroy the Planes Gate, who explained to her that, despite being drow, she could not return home to her home of Avalencia, given that she was banished from her home, but told her how to get to the city to make it her new home, guiding them until they reached The Kathoid Forest. The two became close on the journey there, with Velbrina rather naively stating that she would find a way to allow her to go home again.

Becoming a Mage

Velbrina continued her education in Avalencia, learning about the arcane arts and finding that she was quite talented a mage. This caught the attention of the Archmage Zyn Khalazza, who was searching for an apprentice, finding that Velbrina would be the perfect protege for him to take on. Despite his prestige, she found that Zyn was patient with her, tolerating her clumsiness and cultivating her love for alchemy. At times, she found that she still suffered from the events of Thantheas and even though Zyn was kind to her, even going so far as to buy her home for her, she found that she was rather lonely in the first few years. Luckily, Tharla would actually return to the city, with her buying a property close by, giving Velbrina the friend that she desperately wanted.
