Calibo River (CAL ee bow)

the Trembling River

The Calibo River is a shallow freshwater river that flows across the lowlands of Mainor into Argoa Bay. The headwaters begin in the heights of the Theo Val Mountains, flowing down and twisting its way through the Calibo Wetlands until it reaches the Argoa.

The riverlands around the Calibo River consist of forested swamps, peat bogs and wetland estuaries, and has been inhabited by humans since the first feet set foot on the Thoamaine Peninsula somewhere in prehistory. Evidence suggest that it was also settled at some point by migrating Lizardfolk that would become the Sarhareia people. Both groups dwelt in the land for some time before each culture moved to their current location, with the Sarhareia moving north into the Sarhara, and the humans moving into the southern mountains, becoming the modern Maine. It is unclear when this movement occurred, or if it was a slow migration or a sudden splitting of cultures.

The river is uninhabited today, overgrown and forgotten, outside of occasional crossings by the rare few that would travel to and from the native Qwn’yia's homelands. Though the witches' rule over Mainor have a tight control over all of their nation's lands, many consider the Calibo as the northern border to their domain.
