Calantor

The city-state metropolis of Calantor is the largest city on the continent of Demana and home to millions of people. For hundreds of years it was a beacon of civilization and prosperity, but since the coming of the mists, the grandeur has faded. The shadows of the great towers have grown longer and darker, the times leaner and harder. Strange horrors prowl the unlit streets at the edge of town. Hushed voices whisper about dark things awakening.

The People

Children of the Earth

Calantor is home to grand variety humanoid peoples, tribes and heritages. Some of these claim mystical origins, while other consider themselves children of this world, created or evolved in primordial times to inhabit its lands - while other have a more recent history.

Humans

Humans are the the most numerous among the humanoid breeds on the continent of Demana and in the city of Calantor.

Halflings

Automatons

Orcs

Orcs, or Ulûk in their own tongue, originally came to Calantor as pirates and privateers, mercenaries for the gegick invasion army during the Great War, but have come far from their warlike beginnings. Though a significant portion of orcs in Calantor are found in naval or military pursuits, they have spread through most of Calantors society (although very rarely in the upper echelons).

Dwarves

The Dawn Emigrants

Legends hold that aeons ago a vast host came to Demana from the Wild lands to wage war against a great evil. In the aftermath of this conflict they remained, raising kingdoms and even empires. These were the ancestors of the elves, goblins, gnomes and firbolgs.

Elves

After the fall of the great elven empire of Tavaria thousands of years ago, elves lived alongside the humans of the northern kingdoms of Demana. This peaceful cohabitation ended when the Gelgic Alliance attacked the northern realms. The archduke of the alliance held an irrational hatred for non-humans in general and elves in particular. To avoid persecution some elves fled through the strange magic of the Malachite Tower while others found refuge under the Silver Aegis. Not all elves were so fortunate and a many had to go into hiding in deep woods or harsh mountains to avoid ending up in labor camps

The Wild Folk

Shortly after the Mists started to spread four decades ago, fey creatures of legends reappeared. Not as trickster and tempters of the woods, as the tales would have them, but as refugees. Droves of strange beings turned up at the doorstep of civilization, whispering about their domains falling asunder, and about the monsters of the Mists. Most made their way to Calantor due to the great Mistwards. They were given sanctuary, but so often with refugees, only as third class citizens.

The Elite

The hight and mighty of Calentor are comprised of the Galatine Aristocracy, the Vespertine Houses, the New Money and the elven High Houses. The Church

The Church of the Merciful Angel, led by the Midnight Ministry, is the only recognized faith in Calantor and the Coalition. Even though the Age of Prosperity brought a wave of secularization and interest in the arcane, the church is still a very influntial part och Calantor, both spiritually and politically.
