The Cove
Floating about two thousand feet above the ground within the Golden Sphere of Ioth Academy, the Cove is a marvel of magic. A glistening beach with palm trees, rock formations and sparkling waves, all suspended on a glistening mass of earth levitating above the Undercroft. Classrooms and dormitories alike are built into the beach and across the water on piers, and the sound of the ocean resonates throughout.
Purpose / Function
Like the other lodges, the Cove houses and teaches students at Ioth Academy from year One to Year Four (see Ioth Academy Curriculum). It is affiliated with the element of Water, as exemplified by the oceans. Students sent to learn in the Cove may be abrasive and restless, and need the ocean to smooth them down, or they may be deeply connected with others and need the freedom of water to discover themselves.
Architecture
Structures in the Cove are built upon the beach or out across the water on large piers. Some buildings even extend below the waves. Glass reinforced with magic allows students in these classrooms to see out into the water, and lamps are filled with water, causing light to scintillate across the rooms and ceilings of the Cove.
Most structures are made from stone or wood. Some structures further inland are built as towers of stone, roofed with natural materials.
Defenses
The Cove is functionally an island at the center of a body of water, two thousand feet above a dangerous alchemical dumping ground, inside a nigh-impermeable Golden Sphere, watched over by spellcasters and protected by Inril Untermauler.
