The Great Hall

Floating over three thousand feet in the air and orbiting the Spire of Ioth Academy clockwise, the Great Hall is one of the four Lodges attended by young students. Soaring ceilings, vast open windows allowing sweet breezes and gentle sunlight to refresh every classroom and dormitory.

Purpose / Function

The Great Hall houses and teaches First through Fourth year students (See Ioth Academy Curriculum). It is affiliated with the element of Air. Students who are taught at the Great Hall typically possess a free spirit (air) in need of structure and guidance (the halls and their walls) to achieve their full potential.

Architecture

The Great Hall is build from bricks of beautifully polished stone and set with fine, dark woods for reinforcement. Almost every room has high ceilings, with large windows in the upper reaches. The wood in the upper reaches features mother-of-pearl and precious stone embellishments. Banners and airy tapestries woven from light materials billow in the fresh winds that blow in from above.   The Great Hall rarely goes beyond two floors, with dormitories, refectories, lecture halls and libraries on the first floor with smaller classrooms, offices and specialized facilities on the top floor. There are occasional higher halls with small towers, but for the most part the hall sprawls across its land mass.

Defenses

Caretakers stand guard at the entrance to the Great Hall. While armed only with restraint spells and detection magic, they all have the means to notify Wardens who can arrive to deal with actual threats.   Aside from that, the Great Hall enjoys all the defensive benefits being inside the Golden Sphere connotes.
