Leeves

Village at the Edge of the Woods

A village, drowned out by greenery, hugged on three sides on trees. A single, narrow path leads South, away from the forest, and disappears among the trees. The village is surrounded on the northern side with a wooden fence, a feeble attempt to separate it from the forest. The buildings are small but sturdy, well-constructed from lumber obtained by the villagers themselves. Among them stands an overgrown temple to Dalakhar. On a hill overlooking the village is Manor Hyarms, a rather unimpressive building as far as noble mansions go, but well-built and well-kept. People move around busily, paying little mind to newcomers beyond idle curiosity. It seems the locals are no strangers to oddity.
A village at the edge of Cassapia Forest, largely cut off from the rest of Roer by the dense tree growths surrounding it. Despite the unfortunate location and proximity to the forbidden depths of the forest - as well as the dangerous neighboring with the passing free elf clans - the village of Leeves has managed to survive and slowly grow. The Hyarms family has ruled the village and the surrounding area for generations, however it was not until recently that the village has really begun to step up its game in the global market. Vanessa Hyarms, the current interim leader while her father is ill, has great plans for expansion that will grow the village into a bustling center of trade. These efforts have been further bolstered by the recent peace negotiations with Clan Evanuris, one of the free elf clans in the area.   Leeves' main export is lumber from the forest, which it trades through the Blue Lion Merchant Guild's association with the Lumbermen's Guild. There are several small farms scattered in the less densely forested areas around the village, which allows for some degree of self-sustenance. Most other goods are imported through the Blue Lion Merchant Guild. Vanessa's hope is to expand the lumber trade and make the village more self-sufficient, thus increasing the profit margins and allowing for more investment in infrastructure. These ideas have been met with resistance from the Hyarms' neighbors and the Noble Alliance of Roer as a whole.

Known Locations

  • Hyarms Estate. The manor overlooking the village. Home to Alistair and Vanessa Hyarms, as well as their currently ailing father.
  • Bracer Guild Building. Local HQ of the Bracer Guild, operated by Grace Ashclaw.
  • Blue Lion Merchant Guild Building. The place where goods are delivered and from where the local exports leave. Operated by Lerissa Demoneye.
  • Copper Chariot Inn. The lower-level inn in the area. Not exactly a five-star establishment, but it's cheap.
  • The Minstrel and the Scroll Inn. A more up-scale establishment, typically frequented by merchants.
  • The Marketplace. A small central plaza, where fresh goods are sold.
  • Aznaz' Blacksmith Shop. A curious establishment run by the dwarf Aznaz, who only sells wooden weapons and claims that they are better than "that junk used by the elves".
  • Temple to Dalakhar. An old, plant-covered building of grey stone, located at the edge of the village.

Government

House Hyarms founded the small settlement after being given the land by House Aurelius in recognition for their service. Currently, Amaroth Hyarms is the official ruler of the village, however he is very ill and unable to perform his duties. His children, Vanessa and Alistair, are the interim rulers, though Vanessa appears to be doing most of the actual governing while Alistair mingles with the people and makes sure everyone's voice is heard. House Hyarms works closely with the Blue Lion Merchant Guild to export lumber for a fair price and import all of the materials that the village cannot produce by itself.

Defences

A wall constructed along the northern edge of the village separates it from the denser parts of the forest. A guard outpost sits next to a gate - the only entrance through the wall. The village's defenders are trained by Lady Stroth Youngflame, the guardian to House Hyarms.
