Foache

Once the suburbs of Ordis populated by summer homes of Roer nobility, Foache became a proper settlement during the War of the Lions, when refugees from the Western districts flooded the big cities. The Archduke of Ordis declared that all nobles would give up their commonly-unoccupied summer residences around the city in order to accomodate the less fortunate. Thus began the history of Foache. The Archduke's decision remains a sore spot for many nobles that lost their property, resulting in a bit of a contemptuous relationship between the residents of Foache and some nobles.   Located accross the River Ein from Ordis, at the crossing of River Ein and the Valcut River, Foache is recognizable for its many water-powered windmills and its river docks - a rarity among inland settlements. Foache is a major transit hub for water-based transport along the two major rivers. The town retains much of the architecture it had when it was still a suburb of Ordis, with much of the populace living in subdivisions of large estates. It is common for a single mansion to situate up to five families depending on the number of floors, with each section having its own door. This gives the houses the appearance of architectural anthills.
1065 P.A. - Great Foache Fire
Around 10pm on the 19th of Zygos, 1065 P.A., a green dragon made a sudden attack on the defenses of the town, eradicating much of the town's militia. At the same time, humanoid troops launched an attack against the town, setting it aflame. The remaining soldiers rallied behind a paladin of the Order of Alabaster Knights, who happened to have been staying in the town at the time. With great assistance from a group of adventurers known as the Chaos Crew, many of the townsfolk managed to survive the attack inside the local keep. Many more, however, were either killed in the attack or taken away.   On the dawn of the following day, reinforcements from Ordis arrived and the local area was secured by Silveright Knight Zorja Vechernjaja. Reconstruction and rescue efforts began at first light. Though much of the town was charred, many of the structures remained standing.

Demographics

The majority of the population is human, however the town was founded by refugees, thus many races more prominent in the Western districts are found here. Dwarves and half-orcs make up a significant portion of the population. There are also small numbers of lizardfolk, dragonborn, and tieflings. A moderate population of goblins also calls this area their home and have become accepted by the community.

Government

Foache is the only settlement aside from Ordis which is under the direct control and protection of Archduke Leander. Locally, they have a mayor that is elected every three years in order to present the concerns of the townfolk in front of the Archduke.

Industry & Trade

Foache is a transition town for river-based transport of goods. Much of the population works on the windmills, fish in the rivers, or farm in the local water-heavy fields. Foache is famous for its main export: water chesnuts. The local specialty is the Foache Tart, which is a sweet tart filled with chopped up water chesnuts.
