World Forest
Across the length and breadth of a once-thriving continent, the World Forest sprawls like a shadowy behemoth, a vast, magical forest that emerged a millennium ago and forever altered the fate of an empire. Legends whisper of a night when the stars bled and the earth wept, giving birth to this enigmatic expanse that pulses with an ancient, inscrutable magic. Almost overnight, the World Forest devoured cities, rivers, and mountains, erasing the glories of an age-old civilization and leaving behind only fractured tales of its existence.
The World Forest is not merely a forest; it is a sentient entity, ancient and cunning, stretching its gnarled roots and suffocating vines across the land, reclaiming the dominion of nature over all else. It grows unceasingly, voraciously, its canopy blotting out the sun, casting an eternal twilight beneath its leaves. Mysterious, twisted flora and fauna inhabit its depths, creatures of myth and nightmare that guard its secrets fiercely. The forest breathes and thinks, its will exerted through the whisper of leaves and the creak of ancient boughs, pushing back against the encroachments of civilization with a relentless, malevolent force.
Within, magic is as abundant as the air itself, wild and untamed, coursing through the forest like lifeblood. It weaves enchantments thick enough to disorient, to lure unwary travelers deeper into its embrace, where paths twist and vanish, and the ground swallows footprints. It's said that the forest holds within its heart the ruins of the old empire, ruins of ancient cities entwined in roots, where treasures beyond imagining lie guarded by spells and beasts, tempting those foolish or brave enough to venture in.
But the World Forest is not entirely devoid of light. Scattered throughout its vastness are points of refuge, enclaves of the surviving races who have adapted to life in the shadow of the trees. These bastions of civilization, glowing softly in the gloom, are connected by ancient, hidden paths and bound by alliances as precarious as they are necessary. Within these havens, the stories of the old world are preserved, and plans are whispered for a day when the forest might recede, and the land be reclaimed.
Amongst these towns and villages are The Seekers, a league of intrepid souls, a beacon of hope and defiance in a realm overshadowed by the World Forest's sprawling menace. Bound by a noble cause, these brave individuals venture into the heart of darkness, navigating the forest's treacherous depths to combat the myriad perils that threaten to sever the fragile threads of civilization clinging amidst the gloom. Armed with knowledge and unparalleled courage, the Seekers battle malevolent creatures, dismantle dark enchantments, and blaze trails through the nearly impenetrable undergrowth. Their mission is vital: to keep the pathways open, maintain the alliances between the scattered enclaves and preserve the flickering lights of civilization against the encroaching shadow. The Seekers' deeds are the stuff of legend, whispered in awe within the havens of the World Forest, inspiring songs of heroism that echo the undying hope of reclaiming the land from the wild embrace of the forest.
Yet for now, the World Forest remains, a reminder of nature's supremacy and the folly of hubris, a magical wilderness that has humbled an empire and continues to defy the ambitions of humankind. It stands as a dark jewel upon the continent, beautiful and terrifying, a testament to the mysteries and marvels that lie at the heart of the fantastical.
History
Once, long ago, the Forests were relativly small and contained, there were vast plains, riverbeds and scrublands free from trees, where grasses and flowers and grains would grow without the impediment of constant encroachment from the plantlife. The event known as The Fall happened and changed the face of world that would come to be known as Arbourterra for the next thousand years.
