Neo-Havlian
The Neo-Havleans, or simply Havlians, are the modern inhabitants of the Havlic peninsula. They insist they are the only true ancestors of the Old Havleans, despite being cousins of closely related races like Tsedrins.
They generally consider themselves as culturally and morally superior to all others. Some saw it as their moral obligation to subjugate and rule over the all inferior people. This was the founding ideology of the Havlic Empire under High Emperor Ixosonipsa and remained at the heart of the Empire to the end.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Family names did not exist until the end of Emperor Ixosonipsa's reign. The convention came about through the need to keep track of household units in the census and it makes inheritance easier to manage. Family names were initially patronymic, each member of the household would be given a family name based off the household patriarch. The patriarch would have a surname based on his father. In the later years of the Empire this system lost traction. Instead of giving everyone names based off their father, they would just stick to a single hereditary name.
This naming convention did not take hold in all of the peninsula, especially in smaller towns and villages where the concept of individual family units did not exist. In these regions, people were given surnames based on birthplace or nicknames. These surnames were hereditary and nowadays most people have surnames that are derived from these.
Examples of patronymic surnames with a father named "Petràkos":
- Mother: Petràkora (Petràkos + -ra)
- Children: Petrakìsios (Petràkos + hísios) or Petrakárcha (Petràkos + ãrcha)
- Other household members: Petràkani (Petràkos + nàïn)

Ideals
Beauty Ideals
While most Havlians have brown hair, most nobles and emperors have historically had fair hair which led to this connection between blond hair and nobility and consequently became the ideal. Many nobles have even gone so far as to bleach their hair, however this practice became frowned upon and having dyed blond hair was seen as worse than keeping ones natural dark hair colour.
Aside from hair colour; long, straight hair is also idealized, though this came about after the foundation of the Empire. The first emperor Ngavlitsias as well as subsequent emperors all had this hairstyle.
Pale skin is considered the ideal, especially for women. Having pale skin is a sign that one does not need to work outside like a peasant.
Gender Ideals
In the High Empire, men and women had different responsibilities- that is to say women had fewer rights. Women were not allowed to participate in politics, religious ceremony, education or combat. Women were able to work for the military but only in supporting roles, not combat roles. It was considered obscene for a woman to even learn how to defend herself.
