The Island of Arcani

Created during a massive underwater volcanic eruption well before records were kept of the land, the Island of Arcani was unsoiled by humaniods for only as long as it took them to learn of its existence. The tropical climate and relatively large size (for an island anyway) makes it an ideal place to get away and relax. In fact, a long-forgotten woman had thought the exact same thing!   A woman who specialized in magic and technology founded a small nation on the island, but sensing impending danger she was swift to leave back to the stars she had initially came from. In her stead she left a will and a blessing. To pursue a life worth living and a magical geas to protect the town from the chaos that would soon take the world.   Only time would tell how the town faired, but to this day the Island of Arcani stands proud and ever improving.

Culture

The aboriginal culture of Arcani is Polynesian-esc. While traditional Arcanian culture remains as vestiges in modern Arcanian society, there are re-enactments of the ceremonies and traditions throughout the islands. Some of these cultural influences include celebrations of noble birth with week long festivals, deep ties well beyond familial connections between tribe members, death rituals to send their beloved to the afterlife... and other such remnants of the elder tribal culture that has since been cultivated over many generations.   In fact, the native species on the island were so bizarre that they have become a cultural icon of the island. Arcani is noncanonically the original exporter of dinosaur-like animals to the rest of the world in the form of familiars and other small creatures.

Cuisine

Taro was one of the primary staples in Ancient Arcani and remains a central ingredient in Arcani gastronomy today. The cuisine of Arcani is a fusion of many foods brought by immigrants to the Island, including samples from, but not limited to, Polynesian, American, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Polynesian, Puerto Rican, and Portuguese-esc origins. Plant and animal food were originally sourced from around the world for agricultural use.   Poi, a starch made by pounding taro, is one of the traditional foods of the islands. Many local restaurants serve the ubiquitous plate lunch, which features two scoops of rice, a simplified version of 'macaroni salad' and a variety of toppings including meat patties, an oil-fried egg, and gravy of a loco moco, Japanese-esc style tonkatsu or the traditional lūʻau favorites, including kālua pork and laulau. Spam musubi is an example of the fusion of ethnic cuisine that developed on the island among the mix of immigrant groups.

Customs and etiquette

Some key customs and etiquette in Arcani are as follows: when visiting a home, it is considered good manners to bring a small gift for one's host (for example, a dessert). Thus, parties are usually in the form of potlucks. Most locals take their shoes off before entering a home. It is customary for Arcanian families, regardless of ethnicity, to hold a celebration for a child's first birthday. It is also customary at weddings for the bride and groom to do what's called 'the pandanggo', which is a traditional dance that lasts ~10 minutes and is said to bring great fortune when preformed at pivotal moments in ones life.

Government

The government of Arcani is an Magocracy, with the Piang family being the royal 'muggle' family that bequeaths the presiding role to their heirs and stands as a front to the nation's true governing body.
