Kobold

To Plorp of the Orzin Holds, While your theories and applications for the use of poison are quite innovative, we do not wish to pursue them at this time. In addition, your petition for a raise in station has also been denied due to your actions in instigating the current movement amongst other Kobolds. While you may believe that you have a right to be as equal as the rest of us, the Orzin philosophy dictates that your intelligence is what matters, not what you believe. And while you may have good ideas on paper, the fact none of these have reached the public sphere should make it quite obvious that your attempts are futile at best. Perhaps you should be happy with the station you currently hold.
Best Regards,
The Orzin Council

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kobolds almost appear as miniature versions of Firebrand, their draconic origins obvious to everyone. However, their scales are not as tough as the scales of the other draconic species, similar to Dragon Fera, requiring them to rely on their armor. However, their tails can be just as much a threat as their fangs and claws.

Genetics and Reproduction

Kobolds, similar to Firebrand and Dragonborn, usually rely on eggs for reproduction when crossing with their own species or other Draconics. However, they can reproduce with non-draconic species as well.

Growth Rate & Stages

Kobolds reach adulthood by age 6, sharing the fast development that most mortal draconic races share.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Thanks to their time in the darkness of the Underoad, Kobolds have the ability to see in the dark in shades of gray. Those who stayed in the mountains have a superior version of this but at the expense of being sensitive to light. Additionally, most Kobolds can't use an elemental breath but an increasing number of kobolds have begun to show elemental affinities and even the ability to use elemental breath.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

  • The Orzin Holds: Due to how intelligence is treated as paramount in the Orzin holds, Kobolds are often viewed as on the bottom of that list. Gnomes mistreat them and attempt to stop their efforts to rise in station like they have. Within recent times, a kobold adventurer has returned to the Orzin holds from the Aerin Valley and has began a movement to push for the kobolds to be treated as equal as the Gnomes and Tykriels.
  • The Kingdom of Bra'lakun: The Dragons have once again forced the Kobolds under their rule in this territory and the loyal Firebrand and Dragon Fera keep them in line as best they can. More and more Kobolds chaff under this life they must live but things might change with the threat of the Haiakage and the Ziminsi League on the horizon, allowing them to prove themselves.
  • The Ziminsi Leangue: The Kobolds who wish to be free have flocked to the league even gaining political office. With the tyranny of Dragons to their east and the Brandovians to their south, they are going to have to fight fang and claw to keep their freedom for themselves. And to one day liberate the rest of the Kobolds who still serve the Dragons.

History

The Dragons had a place for all the spinoff species they came to rule over. The Firebrand were their warriors, Dragonborn and Dragon Fera, servants. The Kobolds were servants as well but they were treated harsher than the others. Due to their small stature, they were often seen as cannonfodder or toys for Dragons to mess with. But of fear and supposedly devotion, the kobolds continued to serve.

After the Dragon Empire fell, the kobolds escaped into the Underoad where the Dwarves and other races were beginning to start their own empires. Once again, they were seen as servants but this time, they wouldn't stay that way. What they lacked for in strength, they made up for in their ability to learn and craft. At one point in the Underoad Empires, it would've been a common thing for a kobold to rival gnomes in intelligence. It was no doubt the start of the feud between the Gnomes and Kobolds that continues in Orzin.

Even as the Under Empires fell, the kobolds learned to adapt once again and found themselves spread across Avestra, primarily in the mountain lands. While not as numerous as the Dwarves, they were able to find homes for themselves on both continents, their talents shifting to suit their new lives. Their talents came in handy as the Elders arrived and threatened to destroy Avestra.

Kobolds tell stories of the traps that were used to stop Aberrations in their tracks and give enough time for armies to regroup or townspeople to escape. But they went down as unsung heroes just as other groups did. But they don't look for recognition in that as the fact the world is still around is good enough for them. For Kobolds outside the Dragon lands, they continue to make a name for themselves, hunting down the Elders and their forces in the Underoads or wherever they may hide with new found courage.

In the Dragon south, the Kobolds are split between the Ziminsi League ones who wish to live free from Dragon tyranny and the Bra'lakun Kingdom Kobolds who serve the Dragons out of fear and/or loyalty. However, any times to settle the feud have been disrupted by the arrival of the Brandovians and the Haiakage, both of which seek the Kobolds either to add them to their ranks or to test them and see if they are worthy to exist in Avestra.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

In Alus, free Kobolds get along great with free Dragonborn and free Dragon Fera. The three of them have a mutual understanding about their hatred of Dragon rule. They often travel in groups together, looking after each other in case agents of Dragons might be hunting them down. These Kobolds clash with the loyal Firebrand  but try to have an open mind with Firebrand who have escaped the chains of Dragons.

Loyal Kobolds fear Firebrand and sympathize with loyal Dragon Fera. They try to prove themselves so both the former and Dragons will view them as worthy subjects of their kingdom. However, a few do it out of spite as well, wanting to grab power so they can show Firebrand who they've been treated for most of their lives. It explains why the ideals of the Haiakage seem to tempt these Kobolds.

Orzin Kobolds clash with Gnomes, most likely a byproduct of their relationship back in the Under Empires. Some Gnomes have begun to turn away from this rivalry but the majority still hold onto grudges. The Tykriels don't see the point in the feud, often seeing these Kobolds as impressive for their drive to prove themselves. As a result, Tykriels often have an open mind about Kobold inventions and advancements. The Dwarves see these Kobolds as the foundations of what could be great warriors. Their bravery in the face of the aberrations and their masters impresses them. Dwarves will sometimes bring Kobolds along with them in their delves, for their talents and to prove that they are worthy citizens of their holds.
