Akagawa Kimiko

Divine Empress; Wingwraith
"Oh, it's quite alright! I had always wished to do this, you know... to walk among the people, and to share a true smile with someone. You treat me like a human being, and I appreciate that more than anything."
Kimiko was a playable character in Wraiths. She was an Akagawan human born under Varys's season, and was the mother of Aimi and Katsuo (with Isamu) and Kouta and Tomoya  (with Akio). She was very lively and dedicated to her duties, and eventually strong-armed the other nobles into allowing her to briefly fight as a Blade of Tranquility despite her status. Following the Great Tragedy, an unidentified illness has left her comatose for many years, though her physical body has not deteriorated or even seemed to age...

Profile

  • Humble, nurturing, responsible.
  • Protective, willful, naive.
  • She needed to find friends for who she was as a person, not her position.
  • She wanted to make the other Wraiths happy.
  • Any enemy to Akagawa was an enemy to her.
  • As the Empress and High Priestess, she had to fulfill many religious and bureaucratic duties to Akagawa.
  • Rumors say that she was so terrible at common tasks like cooking that she had once burnt down the royal kitchens while slicing apples. She also liked gardening, dance, and the common folk.
  • Secretly, she sold her soul as a treasure to Varys in exchange for using some of her power to save her allies, and she never told them.
  • Her pattern of speech was regal and polite, with unfortunately obscure words sprinkled in.

Notes

Although her children were more a product of duty than a choice- she would have much preferred to spend her life as a childless warrior- she did her best to show each of them love and teach them compassion.   She was a very benevolent and energetic Empress, which made her beloved by her people and an annoyance to other nobles.   In Japanese, 后子 (kimiko) means empress; child.   Her tarot card, the Lovers symbolized partnerships; duality; union and, if reversed, loss of balance; one-sidedness; disharmony.   Her favorite flower, the tiger lily, symbolized wealth.
