Navivert Disaster

The Navivert Disaster is a historic event of the Fifth Age during which the Navivert was sunk off the coast of Konenbur, resulting in the deaths of the ruling elites and royal family of the kingdom.   Though it was not a direct cause of the end of the Kingdom of Konenbur, it was a major contributing factor leading to the creation of the Theocracy of the Sea.

History

The ruling elite, along with the royal family of Konenbur, boarded the grand sailing vessel, the Navivert.   Why so many officials were on the same vessel is debated. In the wake of the Manslayer War, cultural changes in Konenbur against the faith of Zenethia and the Zenethian Heroes led to a push to end the monarchy. As this was ongoing at this time, it is theorized that they may have been fleeing the country.   As the Navivert was sailing in the Gimora Sea, a rogue storm struck the sea. Stories and religious scripture state the storm was the will of Sehakora, The Maelstrom, taking action against the royal family. The ship was lost to the waters. There were no known survivors.

Aftermath

The day the vessel was lost, the head of the faith of Thalassia in Konenbur declared, "The Dragon of the sea has drowed out the old way, and we will follow the path at our shores." It is said there was no mourning for the loss of life and there was instead rejoicing in the wake of the sinking.   This leader of the faith spearheaded the push to dissolve the monarchy, and the theocracy was established in the aftermath. The faith's leader became the country's first Grand Saint, tying the faith of Sehakora directly to the leadership of the country.
