Sehakora, The Maelstrom

The Dragon Goddess of Seas

Sehakora, known by the title The Maelstrom, is the Dragon Deity of Thalassia, the Plane of Seas.   Sehakora is unpredictable and as wide ranging and violent as the sea in a storm. She is the ocean swell and the froth of the sea. She is the torrent of rain and the light of the moon. She is widely worshipped in Konenbur, whose people rely on the bounty of the sea for survival. Sailors, too, make offers in her name for fair winds, and most sailing vessels and merchant caravans have depictions in her name.   The waters of Azimuth are her domain where her power swells. Her throne, the Torrent's Fount, is at the Birthplace of Storms, a place of water, of wind, and of piercing moonlight.   The Maelstrom shares friendly relations with both Barduumus, The Battlelord, and Avianor, The Timefather, often fliting her favor between the two.

Places of significance

Kingdom of Endor

Endor, the First Mountain

Temple of the Flowers – though not as prominent as the temples to Zenethia or Ignosia, here in the upper levels, residents of Endor can leave offerings and prayers to the other Flower Deities. These stone halls and arches have many small shrines in secluded places where small gatherings are held in honor of the Gods or to pray for their boons. However, it is said that each of the gods do have their own full temples in Endor’s lower levels, most do not know where these places might be hidden.   Gate of the Maw – there are a number of pillars in the rotunda of the Gate of the Maw. Upon each is a carved depiction of one of the Dragons of Azimuth, including Sehakora.

Queendom of Keeleon

New Keeleon

The Augurs – a collection of religious monuments for each of the eight Dragons, made of large shards of clay.

Calen Estel

The Column Stairs – a great statue shrine to Sehakora sits at the base of the winding column stairs leading from the docks to the upper cliffs of the city.

Principles

As the Dragon of Seas, Sehakora represents the provinces of the Moon, Seas, Storms, and Travel.

Tennants

  • The sea is fickle, strong, adaptable. When you rise, rise with everything. When you storm, do so at strength.
  • Though you recede, know you will swell again. Though you swell, know you again will recede.

Holy day

The Lunar Crest is the time of year when the moon rises fullest in the night sky. This often is at the start of Felim in later winter, though is unpredictable. Small wooden ships are set forth into waters that sparkle in moonlight.

History

The Second Age: The Age of the Severance

After the events of the Severance, the world of Azimuth was left without gods. However, so powerful were those entities that had occupied the divine realms, echoes of the gods remained. The people of Azimuth still prayed, and these echoes heard these calls. Flowering from the seeds left behind, new entities began to coalesce. In the Divine Planes, eight new beings were made, given form and function by the faiths of the mortal races and beasts. These eight, great figures of scale and wing and claw would be named the Dragons.

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings

It is said the storm that caused the Navivert Disaster was the will of Sehakora made manifest, leading to the end of the Kingdom of Konenbur and the start of the Theocracy of the Sea, tying the faith of Thalassia directly to the leadership of the country.

Azimuth Anthology: The Lost Vessel

On 3 Madaet 5A 352, the Lost Vessel Seekers reached the Harolaud near the Red Rocks. An unidentified green crystalline ring seemed to be absorbing energy from a bust of Sehakora from the prow of the gnomish vessel.   During the battle at the Harolaud, Durak Hamarhart was flung into the icy water with the green ring. Under the water he encountered a large entity with a set of Dragon-like eyes and pair of pale white horns in the shape a crescent emerge from the darkness. The entity watched as Durak removed the chest piece of his armor to stop him from sinking and swim forward to grab the green ring. As he did so, he felt an overwhelming rage from the entity. From his Zenethian symbol pendant, he felt a smaller but defiant energy that made the entity falter. Then in a rush of water, Durak and the item were ejected out from the water and back onto the ice.
