Government

Kherndura has a unique system of government that is based on both tradition and the needs of the community. The town is largely self-governed, with a council of elders and representatives from various professions and interest groups making decisions on behalf of the community. Although Kherndura is largely self-governed, it is still part of the larger dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym. The town is required to report to the king of the dwarves on matters of importance and to pay tribute to the kingdom as a whole. However, the dwarves of Kherndura maintain a certain degree of autonomy and are allowed to govern themselves as long as they remain loyal to the kingdom.
Kherndura also believes that natures way is the only way, if a fire starts and burns a house then it is what nature wanted. If a flood starts then the citizens must stay and withstand it.

History

According to legends in Kherndura, the town was once the site of a great battle between the dwarves and a powerful enemy. The enemy was led by a dark and malevolent force of anti-nature, who sought to destroy the dwarves and claim their lands for itself. The dwarves of Kherndura fought bravely, but they were vastly outnumbered and outmatched. It seemed as though all was lost until the deity Dura, intervened. With her divine power, she rallied the dwarves and imbued them with strength and courage.
The battle that followed was fierce and brutal, with both sides suffering heavy losses. But in the end, the dwarves emerged victorious, thanks to the intervention of Dura. The dwarves were so grateful to their deity for saving them that they named their town after her, calling it Kherndura, which means "Army of Dura".
To this day, the dwarves of Kherndura honor Dura and hold her in high esteem. They believe that her divine power still protects their town and its inhabitants, and they make offerings and sacrifices to her on a regular basis. The story of the battle and Dura's intervention has become a cornerstone of the town's history and culture, and it is often retold in songs, stories, and festivals.
