Dogs

Kmúþic: Vúek He-Únrol /vuːɛkh hɛːʔunrɔːl/

In Borgalor, wolves were first domesticated in what is now Jútrilía and Fúmsis in western Jælondis, long before written history, to aid early elven and human communities with hunting prey, warn and defend them against enemies, and drag sleds. From there they quickly spread throughout the continent and beyond, though there are some regions where they are an uncommon sight, such as in Þjaris and much of Örkraz, either due to the prevalence of other domesticated animals used for similar tasks or unsuitable environment.

Avóðan Sheep Dogs

Named after the predominantly elven Avóðans, these sheep dogs were used by a number of elven and and human inhabitants of Jútrilía and parts of Maralon Steppe prior to the Fell Wars, and like many jútrilían and maralonían dog breeds are now primarily found in the Southlands, particularly the countries of Fjún and New Þamta, where the avóðan sheep dog has become something of a national symbol.
They are easily identified by the long, curly coat which forms into dreadlocks, a trait intended to protect the dogs from wolves and other predators.

Gem Dogs

Gem dog is a general term for dogs breeds from the Qug Mountains that are able to sniff out Magic Crystals, whether close to the surface or deep within mines. Once common in central, southern and parts of eastern Jælondis as well as parts of the Southlands, gem dogs are now rare as their role has been rendered obsolete due to advances in mining engineering, new devices being used to scan for crystals and the fact that they fare poorly in industrialized countries where crystal-powered machinery is part of everyday life.
Gem dogs are usually dark brown with black legs, tail and head, with lighter markings on the snout, ears and tip of their tail.

Onþókan Hunting Dogs

While generally more known for their water dogs, the goblins of Ójom in southeastern and particularly eastern parts of Jælondis also keep several breeds of dogs more suited for hunting deer and other animals on land, as well as guarding property and in some cases as war dogs. Some are also kept as pets, but dogs such þelæan retrievers are generally preferred due to being more gentle.

Tundra Dogs

The common name for several dog breeds that were once common throughout Þjaris in northwestern Jælondis, but now limited to the countries of Ælea and the northeastern part of Æjala, along with a small number in the country of Fjún in the Southlands. They are the only domesticated animal among the þjaric elves which predates the shift towards native fauna and flora during centuries of isolation, as they were deemed necessary for herding and guarding livestock and homes against predators and other dangers.
Ælean herding dogs vary in size and colour, with those found on the Þjan Tundra being the largest, while sylvan breeds (particularly æjalan ones) are smaller and more agile, but all are well adapted to the long, cold winters of the region.

Þelæan Retrievers

Goblins first encountered dogs after they migrated from northern Örkraz to southeastern Jælondis across the Þnisic Sea, and they remained uncommon in goblin societies until the founding of Æþúb, their first civilization, and subsequent trade with the people of Ytvía around two thousand years ago.
As goblin countries have long been centered on rivers, lakes and marshlands, most of their older dog breeds are good swimmers and traditionally used to aid with hunting waterfowl, whether by showing their owners the prey's location, flushing it out of hiding or retrieving it from the water.
The most common breed, the þelæan retriever, comes from what is now the country of Þelæ in eastern Ójom, and are popular throughout the world as pets. Þelæan retrievers are usually either brown or grey, with the latter often having a slight blue-green hue.
