The Merchant's Town

The town of Dymchurch is a bustling settlement situated on the outskirts of Rainegate and serves as the main hub for inland trading between the northern and southern settlements. The River Dymia sits on the side of the town and is used as a ferryway for merchants and traders to easily travel a day's worth of journey into just a few hours.

Founding

Dymchurch was founded after the destruction of Old Dymchurch - An old monastery used by The Order of Aedalus before the Age of Divide until it was destroyed by an ongoing conflict outside the gates of Rainegate. It was meant to be a sort of compensation to the monks by The Crown to give them suitable lodging after their only base of operations at the time was left in ruins, The town however had an exodus of pilgrims who moved to Peaksmouth as a way of furthering their distance from high priority targets such as Rainegate but the name was kept as a reminder of it's founding's purpose.

River Dymia

It's close proximity to River Dymia made it an ideal place for Merchants to cross the lands quickly through the ferryway that was set up shortly after the construction of Deepglen - For years it's been used as a way for merchants to carry their stocks back and forth between Rainegate and the northern settlements, Further developing the a need for the river to be artificially expanded due to the high amount of traffic.

Merchant's Treaties

Sometime after the founding of Deepglen the Merchant's Treaty was formally signed by the crown allowing only those with a river permit to traverse the once bustling riverway. This ultimately lead to uprisings amongst some of the populace of both Deepglen, Dymchurch and even Rainegate from those who had for years used the river as transportation on a regular basis. The uprisings were quelled afterwards thanks to the efforts of The Crown in giving a chance for the people of the sister towns to work in exchange for their permits. This left only the small amount of rioters in Rainegate which also quickly died down due to the underwhelming support they received for their cause.
