Old Dymchurch

The Hallowed Ruins

The Order of Aedalus have been granted land to practice their ways as their bustling numbers in the city of Rainegate couldn't be sustained for long, Thus the king issued a permit for them to build a monastery on the crossroad just before the River Dymia, Calling it Dymchurch - The Order of Aedalus situated it's headquarters here for the time being and grew as the first religious group of Triptych.

Etymology

Dymchurch received it's name due to the close proximity it had to River Dymia which was used as the primary source of water for the monks, It was deemed by the Order that a well was not necessary as the bringing of water that took almost half a day from a natural source was considered a pilgrimage of sorts for the peaceful monks - In between contemplation and scribing, There wasn't much else to do.

The Age of Division

The Order of Aedalus was shattered during the turbulent times of The Age of Division. As conflicts escalated with the people of Kingsbury and Thornton seeking a path to besiege the city, they inadvertently clashed with the monastery's surroundings. What was once a haven of neutrality and tranquility became a battleground.   The once-great monastery, a symbol of devotion and spiritual harmony, succumbed to the ravages of war. The conflict that unfolded outside its sacred walls left nothing untouched. The flames of destruction consumed the peaceful settlement, reducing it to ruins. The Order of Aedalus faced a devastating loss as their cherished sanctuary crumbled amidst the chaos.   Now, the remnants of the monastery stand as a somber reminder of the Order's past glory, a silent witness to the impact of strife on the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment. Yet, the teachings of The Dreamer persist, carried by those who survived the tragedy, echoing through the winds of change that swept through the realm.

Dymchurch

The town of Dymchurch was constructed shortly after the monastery was inadvertently destroyed by the war efforts as a way of The Crown showing it's remorse and compensating the Order by building a new home for those displaced by the war. It instead became a place for merchants and travellers to use as a base of operations especially after the sister town of Deepglen was founded, The monks however later moved on to a further town called Peaksmouth and set up an abbey there to avoid close proximity to the high value target that is Rainegate. The town of Dymchurch kept it's name in honour of that which was lost and still holds a statue of Aedalus that was recovered from the monastery in it's town square.
