Karris Valley
A long valley deep in the Spine. The Valley’s southern end is mostly filled by Lake Karris, a large fresh water lake. The lake is feed by several streams and small rivers coming down from the surrounding mountains. The Lake drains down the spectacular Blue Veil Falls plunging some three hundred feet into the river valley below. The area around the lake and up the northern end of the valley is the domain of the Hool, a sub-race of humans known for their great size and strength. Male Hool typically reach 7’ tall and some have been reported to reach almost 8’ tall. The women tend to run around 6’+. They are known for their hardy build and physical strength shown off by their devotion to wrestling with each other and with bears.
The Valley is isolated and only can be reached through a pair of mountain tracks only passable from the late spring to the early fall. The Hool are friendly enough to visitors and occasionally small bands leave the mountains to fight as mercenaries, typically returning to the valley after a few years. The inhabitants of the Valley are clustered around the lake the and mountain streams that feed it. The villages have populations ranging from 200 to 1,000. Village houses are typically single story structures of stone and wood. The villages are typically surrounded by stone walls more geared to keeping our wandering beasts than attacking armies.
