Upper Lao
This is a highland region south of the central portion of the Spine Mountains. Upper Lao is rugged and divided by many rivers running down from the Spine. Many valleys are intensively farmed with small fortified cities and towns functioning as centers of trade and government. Ethnically the region is very mixed with mountaineers being the largest group with a large minority of Southrons. Communities of Dark Corgerians and Danites can be found in the urban areas. Politically, the region is divided into six small Kingdoms. For a time, the Zalarites dominated this area forcing its small states to become vassals of the the Kingdom of Zareb. With the Majaran conquest of Zareb the vassal kingdoms reclaimed their independence and promptly started fighting with each other. Small wars constantly breakout in this region providing opportunities for mercenaries and adventurers.
Geography
The region is dominated by rough, hilly terrain with agriculture being concentrated in the numerous river valleys. The region is divided by several rivers flowing south from the Spine Mountains.
Natural Resources
Lumber and wool are the major exports of this region. Mines in this area produce copper and lead.
