Azzazel

The Enduring Warrior

Depicted as a warrior from north, many stories tell over his legendary endurance. He is closely associated with the icy wastelands to the north, which is only fitting for one that could withstand almost anything. With the Nordic cold spelling the end for many and the Nordic regions being the most inhospitable in the world.   Azzazel stands for perseverance and survival in the direst circumstances, with his followers being those that brave the wilds and against all odds and maintain their humanity. This fully supports his dogma, which is centred around sacrifice and suffering for a higher goal.   With much of Azzazel’s past being filled with all kinds of horrible things, Azzazel doesn’t care much for other gods unless they aid or hinder in his travels, like Gydona who’s support got him more than once out of a predicament. And Kydrus, who sees Azzazel exploits as an insult and uses his powers over the weather to make his Journey even more difficult.   See: Hercules   Founded in a legend from theGlam Bly Regions, Azzazel challenged by this legend of a non-descript north-man sought the claim this tale as his own. As such he simply started at the beginning and working his way down the list. From climbing "Thundering Mountain" without using tools and reaching the forum of the Elder-Gods, to braving the sea of Woe and slaying a massive sea serpent. During his endeavors Azzazel managed to defeat a massive giant who'd been terrorizing a local village, this gave rise to many more legends, which was amplified by other similar events. The faith of all these people who he indirectly helped eventually culminated in Azzazel being elevated to his godly-status, at the completion of his final challenge, the climbing of the "Thundering Mountain".   Azzazel is the god of endurance and proving oneself better than the established norms. The faith of Azzazel is often seen as a group of daredevils and showoffs, but their actions indirectly better the lives of others, as they face off against massive creatures which are commonly considered undefeatable, this does have the side-effect of them shaking up those norms they challenged.  

The faith: Azzazzel's Challengers

These are the people who seek to challenge themselves and prove themselves better than whomever, commonly in displays of physical force or endurance. These challenges are commonly announced beforehand, and often draw a great crowd. But even when there is no interest in the challenge these devotees will still endure, for themselves, proving they can. Whenever a challenge reaches these devotees, either when some sort of natural phenomena is found, of when the pleads from some settlement reaches the town, they gather and determine who will have the honor of attempting this challenge, these greater challenges are often attempted in groups of five of six. Whenever a challenge is completed, this is marked in some sort of band, anything from a carving around a staff to markings on the body.  

Shrines to Azzazel

These temples as large domelike buildings, made from rough stone domed with a wooden roof, at the center stands a singular pillar where anyone can pin a parchment describing any challenge, the head of that shrine, often an older man who has proven his capabilities, marked by many bands. This individual, in consultation with the local challengers, decides if these challenges are accepted, going solely by how difficult it is.  

Quests of the Faith

In rare occasions, the challengers might get a vision from Azzazel, challenging them to partake in one of the challenges he partook, after which the challenger find the challenge Azzazel directed him to, and with the aid of the Shrine-Eldest prepares himself. After this, the Challenger sets out, only to return with his divine gift, or die trying.
