Agnes' Reading Challenge 2024
This year has really been a blast! I'm very proud of what I've done; I managed to write all 16 articles that I'd pledged (check out my article for Summer Camp 2024) and some just really flowed out! I got some big and important articles done, like Regent of Darta and Taiel Harda Altari, and I also managed to only write about connected stuff, so nothing that was drifting around having nothing to do with anything else.
I've also expanded my following of more world builders and their creations! It's so much fun reading everyone's articles, there is so many different takes on everything and it's great!
Reading
A vehicle, when introduced, caused social upheaval
Taking inspiration from nature and the creatures that do the job you want to do is a smart move. This mining vehicle is based off of the purple worm, who moves around in the Underdark. I really like how the invention and then domination of the Delver revolutionized the mining landscape so much, and how that made the world around it change and adapt. The details of movement and communication is interesting, and it's fun to see so much written about it.A settlement considered a refuge
Willoscave is a cozy small town that is home to both Materians and Dryus, two different species that are usually not able to coexist. I like the little story of the refugee Dryus who found their home here, and I also love the parts of how the town keeps warm during the raging snowstorms. As someone who experiences a lot of snow and colder than -20*C many winters I do wish I had this heated dome!A technology used for defense and protection
A very cool defense mechanism that I think would look great in the visual medium as well! It really feels like a plausible thing dwarves would do: build big pipes and play with magma. They know that the Bakan'Grod is the first line of defense for many other underground cities, and that they must do a good job to protect themselves. I really like the detail of calling it a roar! Makes it feel very powerful! An evil spirit or divine antagonist
The balance between order and chaos, life and death is always fascinating, and can be interpreted and played with in many ways. This goddess favors chaos over order, but is adamant of the balance between life and death. I really like the way that her followers stray from the path that most people follow and portray her with balancing scales instead of a monstrous creature with claws and fangs.A tradition that gives comfort
A little ritual to pause the day. I think this one is really cute, and I love the emphasis on communication and lightening your load. I'm a huge believer that communication is one, if not the, most important skill we can learn and that talking about what and how you feel is very important for your health and relationships! This ritual makes me feel good just reading about it!A hybrid species intentionally bred
As always, Mochi is here with some amazing creatures! These jellyfish hybridize themselves with whales and control those bodies for food and a sort of breeding grounds. The name Wire Dancer feels very poetic, as well as its nickname Sea Phantom, and paired with the long white tentacles this one gets a little eerie. Just how I like it!A charity or organisation focused on doing good
And of course we gotta have an organisation for all the creatures in the big Yonderverse! Having read a lot of Mochi's work, I really like the addition of the organisation who categorizes all the species we encounter. I am fascinated with worldbuilders like Mochi and Kittymonster (see Tuulammanulaasosa) who make taxonomies and intricate names and meanings!A personal item that keeps you safe
One of the new worlds I've found during this year's Summer Camp is the Withered Worlds. It's definitely my favorite! Everything is so coherent; the images, the music, the text and everything just fits together so well! This little cute item is like a guardian of your sleep. I love the little picture of it!! :3An environmental or other large-scale natural disaster
This is the disaster that changed the world forever. The article is masterfully crafted with four different sections describing the different parts of the event, and each one has its fitting music and images. There are 5 different worlds and they were all affected in various ways. The Withering has affected everything in this world, and the article is well made to reflect that!Slang or a language associated with religion or belief
I've been into creepy stuff as of late, and this hits just the right nerve! The way everyone who utters this entity's name just becomes him. And he becomes them. Just the notion of something lurking in the dark eternity, waiting, is very unnerving and I love it!New Goals
Checking on the reading challenge and the goals from last year, I did manage to do some of the things I set out. I polished and expanded articles from Summer Camp last year, and I have also slowly been adding more art to my articles. The one goal I basically did nothing on was to work more on Revenge, which is going very slowly. Though, now it's time to look forward!Tags and sorting
The homework helped me a lot with my sorting. I looked at how others do their categories and tags, and used some of that to better my own system. I will expand on more kinds of tags on my articles, and try to make a trigger warning label on articles that need it.Make more tags in general, but especially for trigger warnings!
Images and art
As I wrote in my goals last year I have a list of articles and what images they need. I want to do the majority myself, but I have realized that I don't have the necessary skill (yet) to get the results I want. So, I have started looking at stock images for stuff that I am allowed to use, and will start putting those on my articles to fill out the big empty spaces haha.Draw more art, and use more stock photos in my articles as well.
Oh wow, thank you so much for two shoutouts! Super happy you enjoyed my stuff this Summer Camp :D
You write such nice articles so I can't just not have them on :D
