House Protector

House Protector consists of those who defend Silvanesti. The Wildrunners, Windriders, and palace guards all work under the guidance of House Protector. Not all of those working to defend the borders or scouting in the forest belong to the house, but most of them do. Sometimes, other forces are established outside the House and although those forces are not formally attached to House Protector, they at least coordinate with it.

As one of the biggest Houses it is also one of the most diverse. Back in the times of Silvanos, the elves that would eventually be part of House Protector comprised the leaders of the clans with the greatest martial power. Those elves, and the immediate families of the clan leaders and those of the leaders' best war advisors were included in the formation of the house. However, in the contemporary age, any Silvanesti that wishes to defend the nation can take part on the rituals to become part of the house.

Because House Protector holds such a mixture of elves, caste is determined not by bloodlines, but by the position within the armies. The ranger-general of the Wildrunners actually commands the whole House Protector structure and all of its varied forces. The captains of the Wildrunners, Windriders and so on all have, theoretically, equal rank within the House, although there are nuances of power that are felt unevenly within. Marriage within the House and to those of House Royal can occur. In the past, only those of House Servitor could not join this House in the Ceremony of Change, but that restriction has been lifted a long time ago.
