Deuria

The central and largest region of the Mortal Realm is claimed by the city-state of Deuria. The region is primarily grasslands but also contains multiple mountains and forests. It is known for being the most diverse and abundant in terms of resources and allows for its people to most easily flourish off its bounty. This boon is not without risk as this domain also bears a larger share of the frontier border with the Dragon Lands than any of the other city-states combined. Most of the War of Scales battles took place within what would become the current borders of Deuria's dominion and left it almost complete destruction. Through the constant efforts of the Collective, the land has been mended with countless magics over the centuries and now few of the conflict's scars remain.

Borders

The north and northwestern borders of Deuria form around the Wyrmwood and stop shy of the northern frost south of Mundrin Ridge. The Wyrmwood is rich in lumber and other useful resources and was once disputed by Deuria and Merkonus. Deuria eventually relinquished any claims as part of the trade agreement to allow Deuria access to the trade and travel networks established by Merkonus' airships. The Collective holds no interest in the snow covered lands of the north, seeing little to gain for far too much effort and gladly leaves the tundras to Dracheim. The same can be said about the southern border along the edges of the great dunes of Reg'naat. The Desert's Spine Mountains remains disputed between the two city-states but currently remains under much firmer control of the syndicates. The largest and most dangerous of its borders lay to the east. A vast expanse of lands bordering on the Dragon Lands. Deuria is often the first to bare the brunt of any draconic aggression and proudly acts as the bulwark of the Mortal Realm.

Points of Interest

Deuria's lands hold the most villages and settlements outside of its city walls due to abundance of resources. However, most remain of relatively little significance. Other locations hold greater strategic or historic value such as:
  • Lake of Rememberance: A large lake to the southwest of Deuria, it is believed to be the site of the final battle during the Day of Ruin. Legends tell that the final battle between Deurem and the Dragon King was so cataclysmic that it permanently devasted and scarred the land around them, leaving behind a massive crater. The crater slowly filled over time to become the lake it is today and acts as a permanent reminder of the brave souls that gave their lives to avert armageddon
  • Moran Forest: Named after the founder of Deuria in his honor. The forest is a trove of resources for the city and has become a useful training ground for the city's defenders. Sharing a large border on the frontier, the forest finds itself home to many creatures, draconic or otherwise. While this would be considered a threat under normal circumstances, it is kept under tight surveillance and is a popular testing ground for the many guilds in the city or individuals seeking to make a name for themself.
  • Ruby Thicket: A unique phenomenon within the Mortal Realm are the glistening red trees of the Ruby Thicket. This patch of woods is host to numerous strange and otherworldly creatures and flora that cannot be found anywhere else. A site of many scholarly studies and expeditions, full of wonder but also caution. As beautiful and serene as the Thicket may seem, not all who venture into its depths have returned.
  • Scale's Bane: The Great Bastion of the Mortal Realm, was constructed nearly two millenia ago after the Day of Ruin. Fearing the dragons' return, all of the city-states joined in unity to create an unassailable fortress within striking distance of the frontier. Its defenses and arsenal have been continually upgraded over the centuries to ensure it retains its ability to act as both shield and spear.
