Atesh

The Opal of Obari

The largest city in the Obari Desert, Atesh has stood for over a millennia. When settlers from ancient Trast arrived on Iqari, the city was already the largest settlement of the Nabakkin on the continent, with more of their villages following the rivers north. Over the following century, the newcomers would integrate with the locals and Atesh achieved even greater levels of prosperity.

Government

Since the time when Nabakkin still ruled the city, the ruler of Atesh has been known as the Archon. Traditionally, succession of the throne has been hereditary. Since its absorption into the Maia'desh Empire, the Archon has been elevated to rule over the entire northern territory, while leadership of the city is now handled by their eldest heir. This ruler is known by the Imperial title of Judicar.

History

When the settlers integrated with the Nabakkin who founded the city, they started out as second class citizens. Most didn't mind, as this was the nabakkin's home first. However, around 400 years ago the Archon of the period set her eyes on expansion, seeking to claim dominion over the whole of the desert. The territorial Dragons around the region temporarily united to stop it, driving not only her armies but the majority of the native nabakkin below ground for their own safety. Much of the city was damaged in the assault, and the other sapients assumed control to quell the ensuing chaos.
