Marosk

"In an imperfect world, order is the surest path to peace. The tolerance of discord will lead to the ruin of all."
Marosk

Marosk, god of order, law, and strategy, was at the outset very similar to his brother Corinnis, as they both simply reveled in the peace that existed before man. However, while Corinnis watched in apprehension as civilizations began to grow, Marosk watched in fascination, often assisting the rising authorities throughout the land in making decisions regarding the developing structure and laws of their societies. He was convinced that bonding together would greatly improve the lives of all, but knew that strict rules would have to be put in place and respected to the best of each member’s ability for these emerging societies not only to remain functional, but to thrive. He was allied with Mannaret during the conflict with Damakos and proved an effective strategist during this time. However, some time after this conflict had resolved, he became aware of certain groups that were forming networks with each other and within themselves for the purpose of breaking the law. He investigated and discovered these syndicates were the work of Djudla-Mei, and spent much of his time apprehending her, though she ever evaded him. He is depicted as a man with brown hair and a trim beard in plate armor, the fingers of his right gauntlet stained red from where he touched the Eye of Shej.

Relationships

If the following of Marosk is controversial, it is because of his weakness in the face of Shej, the goddess of chaos. Though he knew how she was, how irreconcilable their differences were, and how much damage she had done to many growing societies, still she fascinated and tempted him. Although at first she did not reciprocate his affections, she had a child by him—Tegreshalask, god of madness. Soon after, he began to pull away, and, allegedly realizing she had come to care for him, she consulted with Madjei and even her son and created the Eye of Shej, a powerful gemstone that caused madness in any who touched it. She gave it to Marosk, and for some time he caused great destruction alongside her, running rampant across the land. Many Meydra banded together to try to help him, and in the end it was Imennis who developed a cure to counter the gemstone's effects. After he had recovered, Marosk renounced Shej and all she stood for.   There is an unsubstantiated legend that after Shej, Marosk fell in love with a mortal woman, whom the stories call Amri. But Shej, vindictive and jealous, came after her with the intent to kill her. Some versions of the story end with Shej murdering Amri seconds too soon for Marosk to come to her aid; others see Marosk seeking out Imennis to ask her to give Amri the gift of immortality, and then bidding her a tearful goodbye.

Followers

Marosk has a great following among lawmakers and peacekeepers, and he is usually held in particular respect and esteem by dwarves. Clerics of Marosk and of Lesh generally have great respect for each other, seeing one another's work as two sides of the same coin. Marosk's clerics wear his symbol, a silver gauntlet.

Aspects

Belessar the Fallen: Taken directly from the Elvish word for "maniac" or "dangerous," Belessar is the name by which Marosk was known when he was being affected by the Chaos Stone, starting immediately when he laid waste to a wood elf village. As Belessar, he is depicted with wide, glazed eyes, redness creeping up the armor of his right arm and blood dripping from his fingers.
