Imennis

"It is not what they think it is. Perhaps nothing is."
Imennis

Imennis is the goddess of magic. She was born with a natural talent for magic, which made some of the good-aligned Meydra nervous, as they knew what had become of the last Meydra who had taken up patronage of magic—Imennis's father. Imennis heard the stories of Madjei and for a time, in the interest of placating the other Meydra, pursued a separate interest of hers: machines. She spent many years on the plane of Mechanus, and may have been its creator. However, over time she still drifted back to the use of magic, integrating it into her creations to make true wonders of technology. She eventually returned to the material plane, now determined to show the world that magic could be a good and beautiful thing. She studied under Perennitus to hone her healing skills and under her mother La to learn how to use her magic to see the future. She worked during a time of peace and used her magic to help the peoples of Talazic rebuild their homes in the wake of the destruction wrought by Damakos and his followers. Imennis is depicted as a young woman, even a teenager, with plain brown hair, wearing ornate white and black robes and holding a spellbook in one hand with a ball of light floating above the other. She is frequently referred to as Imennis the Young, or the Magus.

Relationships

As mentioned above, Imennis was, for a time, apprentice to Perennitus, and learned much from her mother La. She never knew her father, who was isolated from all the Meydra from the time she was very young. She was mistrusted by a number of Meydra, although most of them came to trust and respect her as she continued to prove her dedication to the just and lawful use of her craft. In particular, Marosk said, when she was born, that he could not think of anything she could do that would make him trust her, but she helped him with very personal problems not once but twice, protecting him and his family, and he came to change his mind. Among those who never did come to trust Imennis were Wulozha and Dagmar.   Imennis married a half-elf outlander named Himo with whom she had at least one child, the Simra Gelli. After Himo died, Imennis never remarried.

Followers

Among Imennis's followers is a great number of wizards and artificers, and to a lesser extent, sorcerers and warlocks. Her core teaching is simple: magic is to be used for good. Her symbol, a spellbook with a nine-pointed star on its cover, is worn as an amulet by her clerics. The center of her order is located in the Gaulvistan city of Lestissel.

Associated Customs

Spell Day: Celebrated on May 31st, this is a festival that invites mages, especially wizards, to use every spell at their disposal to put on a feast for the common folk. This includes conjuring food, using evocations for entertainment purposes, and inviting people to attend from abroad and using tongues to communicate. This celebration is outlawed in some regions where evil mages have taken advantage of it, but in many places it is one of the most beloved holidays of the year.
