Madjei
"At the end of the day, we're not sure what he was. But we do know some of the things he did. Is it the complete picture? Most assuredly not, but we must work with what we have..."Lexenaphius Attio, professor of abjuration
Madjei is the god of loneliness and jealousy, as well as magic. Legends say that from the very beginning, he felt lonely and isolated by his own power, and though he tried to help other Meydra when they came to him with problems, no matter what they were, he sensed the disapproval of some of his actions and general fear of what he might do with his power. He isolated himself, creating a great many powerful potions and spells without ever using them. One day when he dared to go to the Valley of the Meydra, he saw Lekatash and Tekina there, and their obvious love for each other drove him mad with jealousy. He attempted to tear them apart by tricking Lekatash into coming with him to Eketshastikelost, the northernmost point of Talazic, and pushing him into a pit and burying him under the ice, which he enchanted to be immovable. He then withdrew to a small island far from Talazic, where he remained, alone, until the Death of the Meydra.
Evendur had originally intended for Madjei to be a patron of magic and magic users, imbuing him with greater power than all the rest of the Meydra, but because of his actions he is now better known as god of loneliness and envy. He is usually portrayed as a dark-haired human in green mage’s robes holding a staff made of ice.
Relationships
Madjei and Fierel were initially close companions. Madjei taught him how to create artificial life and a great many other magical secrets, even gifting him with a pair of gloves that helped him to generate magic. However, Fierel soon became intimidated by the depth of Madjei’s power and distanced himself from him. Throughout the Age of the Meydra Madjei was known to help a variety of Meydra and even humanoids who came to him for magical assistance, including Elairus and Tirinasi. Madjei had brief relationships with Djudla-Mei, Illethar, and La, which resulted in the births of Lomé, Ramari, and Imennis, respectively.
After the Age of the Meydra, Damakos approached Madjei to strike a deal. Madjei found companionship in the side of darkness that he never had before and now fights unabashedly against the light.
Followers
Madjei has a great many followers among magic users, but is also known to be a god to whom many people, even good people, pray when they are desperate. He even answers these prayers every so often. Some scholars believe that Madjei was not entirely evil, and his story could have been completely different if another Meydra had shown him a little more kindness.
