Vedanav

"There is an end. There is something beyond. That is all you need to know."
Vedanav

Vedanav is the goddess of pain. She began as the smallest and weakest of the Meydra. She was always timid and uncertain of her place in Evendur's grand plan, and indeed of whether there even was one. Because of this weakness she became a victim of vicious attacks from entities created from the anger and experimentation of other gods, Fierel and Damakos in particular. They tormented her relentlessly for untold amounts of time, dragging her through the Nine Hells, Hades, and the Abyss. Like any Meydra, she had regenerative abilities and this was exploited and abused by her tormenters, though they even invented methods of torture that left lasting scars on her, a goddess. A chant called the Litany of Scars details all her recorded wounds during this time. A legend tells of a day she was brought to the Prime Material Plane and was set ablaze, left alone to burn for days. She tried to focus on the tweeting of a baby bird nearby to distract herself from the pain. In the evening her fire suddenly spread to a nearby tree, and the tweeting became frantic before abruptly stopping. In a burst of grief and anger she tore her bonds and found the charred remains of the fledgling, which she brought back to life. She fled her captors, and when Fierel found her some time later, she fought back rather than submitting to further torment, and ripped his magic gloves from his hands. Vedanav is patron to all those who suffer, asserting that suffering can be used for good. She is portrayed as a woman with black hair in a braid, ram horns, no pupils or irises, and skin completely mottled by reddish scars, usually wearing a simple red tunic.

Relationships

Vedanav had trouble learning to trust anyone after she took her life back, but she was drawn to Kress for his ability to take pain and turn it into art. They married and had two children, Gonvarg and Zhamat. Vedanav also eventually became friends with Celeyra.

Followers

Followers and clerics of Vedanav believe that suffering is an essential part of life and practice finding purpose in pain, and when that purpose may not be obvious, offering it up to Evendur. Vedanav has a significant following among tieflings and war veterans.
