Adia

Adia (ah-DEE-uh) is the goddess of dreams, travelers, explorers, and luck. She is one of the younger deities, having been born in the 20th century ER as Saria Brunsvold, a Northron Human from Nevalus. She ascended to godhood in her late 50s.

History

Adia was born mortal. As a mortal, he ended the oppressive rule of King Fargrim Stordahl, a younger son of the previous Northron King who usurped his older brother. Grimolf Stordahl (the usurped king), Adia, Adia’s half-brother, Adon, and Adon’s wife, Ydona, led a small band of rebels and sympathetic adventurers called the Northern Brotherhood. One day, as Fargrim was travelling from Nevalus to Vestnaeyjar, the Brotherhood ambushed his entourage. Though they inflicted heavy casualties, they were forced to retreat, but not before Adon nearly removed Fargrim’s left eye, a scar he still bares to this day. Adon realized that he needed to swell his numbers and get the populous to support Grimolf if they wanted any chance of victory. While Adon and Ydona began sneaking various locations where slaves toiled in mines, quarries, and fields; freeing them, and bringing them to revolt, Adia, a skilled dreamer, began sending pleasant dreams to these slaves inspiring them with thoughts of life free from Fargrim’s chains.

Grimolf and the Brotherhood finally assaulted Nevalus, where they met Fargrim in battle once more. It was a bloody fight, but Grimolf, Adon, Ydona managed to defeat Fargrim, but not before Fargrim mortally wounded Adon and Ydona. Fargrim fled the continent with his wife, his commanders, and a few loyal followers. Adon and Ydona’s funeral was attended by all of Nevalus. During the funeral, Selena appeared before the mournful crowd and declared the Adon and Ydona will continue to serve as symbols for freedom and perseverance and joy and liberty, respectively, and raised the two to divinity.

After her brother’s death, Adia dedicated herself to continuing their work and helping Grimolf stabilize the kingdom, and eventually the two fell in love and married.

Adia lived a full life as Queen Consort of Kalfa. She was never content with life at court, she constantly went about and risked her life to protect her people, many times succeeding as if only propelled by pure luck. Additionally, Adia spent years mapping the mountain passes of central Kalfa, a region previously uncharted due to the territorialism of the native frost giants.

Adia was eventually killed when she fought off a band of frost giants accosting travelers on the roads to The Heartlands; she ascended to godhood immediately upon her death, her place in Celestia secured at the same time as her brother.

Relationships

Adia is the younger half-sister of Adon. She considers Adon, Narrena, Roemis, Selena, and Ydona amongst her closest allies.

Adia also has a number of mortal descendants; every living member of House Stordahl, with the exception of Fargrim, is descended from Adia.

Appearance

Adia appears as a young Northron human with blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. Her hair is kept down, falling to her shoulders and glistening with a sheen of gold. Her eyes are like carved sapphires, almost glowing with a soft luster.

She wears warm furs over hide armor. Under her armor she wears a light blue tunic and light olive trousers. She also wears a fur cloak. She has a quiver of arrows slung over her shoulder and a single-bladed axe hanging from her belt on her right hip. She is always depicted as holding a longbow.

Church of Adia

Adia is the goddess of travelers, and exploration, there are few who embark on a journey before sparing her a prayer or plea for guidance. Scouts, explorers, sailors, and habitual wanderers make up a large part of her followers, though she is also the goddess of luck, which makes her an attractive patron for gamblers, merchants, and thieves. Additionally, a resurgence in the ancient talent of dreaming has drawn a number of Aes Sedai who possess this talent to worship Adia over Mylara.

The Church of Adia is widespread throughout the entire continent, though Adia’s priests are mostly wanderers who tend to wayside shrines.

Clergy

The clergy of Adia is very informal and is primarily composed of clerics. Liberators dedicated to Adia exist, but they are few and far between, preferring to dedicate themselves to Selena or Adon. Bards also take up the cause and spread her scripture as wandering mention.

Temples and Shrines

Only one established temple to Adia exists, the Hall of Dreams, which was erected at the site of Adia’s ascension. Roadside shrines tended by wandering priests are much more common and tend to be seen about every ten miles along major trade roads.
