Feywild Gate

The Feywild Gate is a relic of the elven crossing from the Feywild into the Material Plane. Even before the Feywild Collapse, the Feywild Gate was used to transport observers of human society from the Feywild to the fortress at Citrivale. Concealed by the very presence of fey magic, it was kept hidden from prying eyes and only occasionally materialized in words of human fiction and stories. One of many such gates across the world, this one became important for the elves, as it was the one that they managed to use to escape the catastrophe that destroyed their home plane. It has since been abandoned, and the area around it died to the horrific magics that came out of the portal as the elves fled.

Purpose / Function

Originally created as a permanent gateway between the Feywild and the Material Plane, the Feywild Gate was constructed to allow quick passage between the two realms. The gate itself was protected by concealment magic which would lead any humans in the area to ignore it in favor of continuing on. The few humans that did notice the gate were fooled into believing it was something other than it was, seeing instead a small settlement or natural obstacle. They would turn away and return. Only a handful of humans would ever pass through and see the Feywild for what it actually was.

Alterations

After the Feywild Collapse, thousands of elves fled through the portal into the Material Plane. The old defenses were dismantled, otherwise passage of so many and their belongings would have been next to impossible. To the horror of the elves that crossed, the catastrophe that had destroyed their home threatened to follow them, and the trees and forests next to the Feywild Gate began to die. At last realizing the extent of their doom, the elves destroyed the gate, leaving only the ruins of it behind them as they headed into the healthier forest further south to build their new home.
